Chance a transfer from UMiami please!

Upcoming college sophomore wanting to transfer to from UMiami to Tulane, didn’t do so well my freshman year but I know I can do very well the next school year. Political Science and maybe Econ major.

ACT: 29, 30 superscored
Also took Pre-AP Classes and received a 5 on the IBSL Econ exam
Extracurriculars: Student Council Vice President, Men of Power (African American mentoring group) secretary through which i got 50+ community service hours, Spanish Club, was in a rock band with friends for 3+ years,
Work: Had a job junior and senior years
Awards: AP Scholar with Honor, National Achievement Scholar outstanding participant, National Spanish exam honorable mention

College: University of Miami
GPA: 3.0 (2.5 First semester, 3.5 second semester)
4.0 Poli Sci GPA
3.5 Econ GPA
Extracurriculars: Economics Club, Students for Sensible Drug Policy,United Black Students, Intramural flag football, Model United Nations
Work: Work at the University Information Desk(Work Study), received an internship with one of the best political and economic research organizations in South Florida, the Metropolitan Center (which would give me the opportunity to become a paid research assistant if the internship goes well).

My first semester was really bad and I know it will hinder me, but my question is if I get at least a 3.5 for the next two semesters would I have a chance of transfering into Tulane University.

@umiami18

Yes, I would say if you have 3 out of 4 semesters at 3.5 or better you should have a very good chance. Especially since the 2.5 was your first semester. Lots of students have a bump in the road transitioning from high school. As a rising junior, your high school record won’t even count, and neither will your ACT, etc. They will base the decision strictly on your college record, IIRC.

Just out of curiosity, why do you want to make this move?

@fallenchemist thanks for the chance. But I want to make the move because I feel UMiamis political science department isnt up to where I’d like it to be, theres few options to gain experience and internships. Tulane has the Murphy Institute, an Institute for Public Service among other helpful programs. Also New Orleans is a mostly African American city which is the community I want to work in

Those sound like very good reasons. Make them very clear to the admissions committee.

@umiami18

How was UMiami for diversity? I know they have a large hispanic student population, are there are lot of Cuban students since Miami has a large Cuban population.

Also, did you get generous merit there? Thanks.
