Chance a transfer please!

I'm an international student who just completed freshman year at a Top 50 LAC school.

I have realised that the science programs at my school are not for me. I do not feel that I will be intellectually stimulated or challenged. I wish to attend a larger university where there is more intensive research and more research opportunities available to me.

Chances for schools like: Cornell, Columbia, Yale, Harvard

Stats:
High School
GPA unweighted: 4.0, Rank: 1
SAT: 710M, 650CR, 740W should I retake?
GCSEs: 9 As and 3 As
A Levels: A in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics (similar to APs but I think more rigorous)

College:
GPA: 4.0
Rank: 1/650

ECs: Photography, Intern for environmental science department, Drama, Track and Field in high school, volunteer, working in dental office, worked in lab as lab assistant (nothing amazing, I guess)

Honors: I ranked nationally (top 5) for my GCSEs and A Levels, Dean's List at college, best freshman in Chemistry award at college

FA: I will need a lot of FA

Thanks, and I will chance you back (I'm not actually new to CC, I have been viewing the forums for about two years now).

I think you stand a fair chance at Cornell as long you’ve completed some of the requirements. Yale, and Harvard will be much more difficult and near impossible as both have very low acceptance rates. Columbia is still a bit of a reach.

Perhaps you should consider Emory, Vandy, UVa, UNC, and even USC. All of which are known to have higher acceptance rate for transfers.

Don’t retake your SATs. You will be fine. Hopefully you have a compelling reason to transfer…

Whoops, kinda skimmed your entry…you should be in good shape if you can communicate your reason well:)

Would it hurt if I retake the SAT though?

And, I will take a look at the schools you mentioned!

I think you may want to cast a wider net in terms of where you’re going to apply because those schools are so selective.

How do you know your rank at your LAC?

If you score worse, possibly. I really don’t know, I’m not part of the admissions committee. The big thing is you need to make a compelling reason to transfer.

But again, why would you want to retake them? I’m thinking they won’t help you if you do…your GPA is great anyways. There are a lot of factors that go into the process of selecting transfers.

I don’t really have a solid reason for wanting to retake the SAT other than what I stated in another thread- I think my scores are too low for the schools I want to apply to.

We can check our rank online when we view our unofficial transcript. Why? Is this not normally the case?
