Chance a Trojan hopeful for Cal?

I am a junior from CA, and USC is my dream school to major in Communication. I'm also applying to Cal, and want to see if I have a shot at being accepted there in this major. I know my stats aren't stellar or anything, but I just want to get the opinions of others. Thanks! (Other colleges to chance me at: Syracuse U, UCLA, NYU, Northwestern, UCSB, UCSD, Cornell, etc.)

I would be happy to chance you back, but I don't know how great I would be at it. :-)

Your chances aren’t horrible, based on your stats, but nor are they very good. I’d give you a 25% chance, with a caveat. If you can spin your love and commitment to art well in an essay, showing how it’s part of who you truly are, your chances significantly improve, I think.

I don’t think you have much to worry about really. My stats were very similar to yours and I got into a very exclusive major (EECS). As far as extracurricular activities go, you have a lot to talk about which is definitely a big plus. Write a great personal statement and you’ll have a fine chance of getting in. No percentages because I feel admissions aren’t left to chance. Either you got what it takes or you don’t.

Hey,

I’m a Cal student and I’d say you have a so-so chance of getting in. I wouldn’t say you’re def in but it’s possible. Most of the Cal students I know had GPAs nearing 4.0 UW and SATs above 2000, but there are plenty that didn’t. Don’t worry about it too much but good luck on USC.
