Chance a Trombone Player?

Hi! I am new to CC,
and Yale is undoubtedly my first choice.

I got a 2310 on SAT, and also 2330 total in SAT II's (i took 3)
I have gotten straight A's and I am ranked in top 3% of my class.

I have spent most of my life since Middle school on Trombone.
Just 2 other clubs, president and VP, but to me, they're not as important as Trombone.

Since 7th Grade, I've gotten 1st Chair Trombone in the All State Band 4 times, which is like being the best in state at Trombone in my grade. I am from a southern State west of Mississippi, where it has a very competitive music environment. also, I performed with my State's finest youth symphony and wind bands.

I sent in my CD recording to colleges, and I thought it was pretty good.

Music is my passion and I wish to study music, but I also want to study other liberal arts subjects in college as well. I know Yale has a very strong music program, and would being a skilled Trombone player put me in a favorable position?

Thanks,

T.D.

You say you have sent a music CD to colleges – are you a senior and have you already applied to Yale?

The Yale admissions site says this: “Yale College does not conduct musical auditions for applicants. Music faculty members will review selected audio recordings or scores from advanced musicians, whether or not they wish to major in music as undergraduates. Please consider sending musical materials only if your accomplishments are truly outstanding for a high school musician and if your playing or composing is a strong and important part of your application. Submissions that demonstrate an average or merely competent level of ability for a high school musician will not help your application.”

On this same page, it gives detailed guidelines on submitting supplementary music: [Supplementary Materials | Yale College Admissions](<a href=“Supplementary Materials | Yale College Undergraduate Admissions”>Supplementary Materials | Yale College Undergraduate Admissions)

Read it carefully; it says that they do not want CDs.

Hope this helps.

For Yale I uploaded my music through its website.
No worries!
