I want to major in Biology.

Is my URM status (hispanic) very beneficial?
Will it help me a lot to apply ED?

Thank you!

did you end up getting accepted?

I’m going to apply next year since I’m still a junior.

I’m pretty sure they loveeee URM, but your GPA could hurt you. Try and bring it up (I know it’s a little late in the year, but hopefully not too late).
Good luck!

i got a 2030/1350 and i got in with a likely letter. I was ranked 14th out of 421, but I had a really good essay. I mean REALLY good. It was deeply emotional and personal and the one friend who I let read it cried. Plus, it might have helped that my family did not make that much money. Oh yea and i only joined one club, but I was a 3 sport varsity athlete and I won many awards for athletics (but not recruited). I also had a lot of hours of community service.

thanks everybody, anyone else?

to be completely honest, it seems to me like you wont be admitted. dukes admission rate just got split almost in half this year, and that trend will continue. i think you need to do alotttt better on the standardized tests. duke is rejecting people with 35s on the act and almost perfect sat scores. also, i would make sure you get an a in every class you take from here on out. with some improvements in those areas, your race will likely push you over the top.

p.s. you specifically asked “is m URM status beneficial?” and the answer is yes, its extremely beneficial. but you still have to be in the ballpark of the other applicants. yes, you can be accepted over a white student with a stronger application, but you still have to be pretty close.
