Hooks:
My dad is an alumnus of Georgetown, my mom is an alumna of Mercer.

I'm worried about essays, but I think I can improve on those throughout the summer. My recs will probably be good, considering I'm asking my youth leader from church and neighbor(we're really close.) Whatever college I get accepted to, I want to major in International Relations and minor in Spanish.

Thanks for everything!

I’d say you a decent shot so far… URM + legacy will definitely help. Just get a decent score on that last subject test, and possibly raise that SAT score up.

Good luck!

How much would you say to raise it by? Thanks for the advice, btw!

Honestly, you may not even need to raise it, depending on your CR+M combined score… (That’s all Georgetown really cares about… If both are above 700’s, then you’re fine…

bumpity, bump, bump

I think you have a very good shot at all the colleges on your list. Apply to all of them and see what you get.

I agree with Lesley for you to try to raise your SAT’s. It appears you do better with the SAT than the ACT. Also, apply early action to UM, Ogelthorpe and Georgetown. Once you have received your results and are satisfied, if there are other reaches to which you have interest then go ahead and shoot for the moon.

Afterall, your acceptances will be your safeties, hopefully they will also be financial safeties as well.

Great score on that Spanish II BTW. Good luck to you!

Looks good, esp. Georgetown, given the hooks. Don’t know that much about the others, except that Berkeley might be a stretch. The one thing that leaps out is where you are in math. Does your school offer Calc? If so, you might want to consider taking pre-calc this summer at community college and taking Calc in the fall. (Or, if your school doesn’t offer calc. taking that at CC too.) Most competitive schools will expect to see at least Calc AB.

@OTM, my school only offers Calc AB, but math isn’t my strongest subject, so I’m afraid that might kill my GPA.

I’m also looking at Emory and Amherst, but then those are probably long shots too.

Thanks to everyone who gave advice!

For Emory and Amherst, aim for a 2150+ and you’re in good shape…

bump bump bump

No offense, but being African-American is one of the greatest things to have an an app. An African-American friend of mine, currently a senior, got accepted to Stanford. His WGPA was about 4.3, didn’t break 2200 on the SAT, and had average ECs. You’ll probably get into most places you apply to.

^Because that totally makes up for all of the disadvantages that come with…you know…racism, oppression, discrimination, etc.
