Chance a very curious junior into HYP pleaase?

So I just got some scores today, and i figured you guys would be able to help me satisfy some curiosity about my chances a year from now at Harvard, Yale and Princeton. Also, I'm completely stumped for non-Ivy safeties and matches to visit over the summer, so please suggest a few!

Transcript

GPA: 3.95 UW (no weighted GPA available)
Courseload: Most challenging, with 5 AP's and IB's this year and another 3 next year
Class Rank: top 5% out of 275
Type of School: sends many grads to top schools

Standardized Testing

ACT: 35 C--36 R, 36 M, 35 E, 33 S and...9 essay :(

SAT II Math IIC: 800
SAT II World History: 790
SAT II Literature: 730

Honors and Awards: Almost certainly National Merit Semifinalist, NHS, hopefully winner of a few big national essay contests, AP Scholar, plenty of Model UN and debate awards

ECs: Outstanding, leadership positions in 5 activities (editor-in-chief, debate captain, academic bowl captain etc) and a volunteer leader position at a national non-profit; paid jobs over two summers

I can't say about my recs and essays yet, but I'm sure they'll be excellent as well

So, my main questions are:

1) With my stats so far, do i stand a good shot at HYP?
2) Since entry into HYP is arbitrary at best for someone w/out legacy or sports, what are some other good safety schools that fit my profile?
3) I'm getting nitpicky here, but should I retake my 35 ACT because my essay score sucked? In other words, how much do they care about the standardized test essay?

Thanks for reading through that, and please reply!

I can’t really answer your other two questions (I’m a junior as well, just starting to seriously look at colleges), but I hope they don’t look at essay scores, mine is just as terrible as yours. I’m not planning on retaking it because I hate ACT, but for HYP maybe you should.
This is basically completely unhelpful, but I tried.

thanks azeri…can anyone else help me out? bump

bump please! any opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Well, what do you want to study or major in?

Most likely econ or int’l relations, although i may want to minor in something like compsci…

oh, and i also kind of want an active social scene…

I wouldn’t bother taking the ACT again… your score is fine, and they warn a lot about appearing too test-obcessed… once you get a 35, don’t even bother (unless you want to take the SAT one time). I’d say your chances as anybody else, but don’t forget- HYP turn down 2400 scorers. I think your geographic residence would make a big difference here- do you live in New England? Because that would hurt. Alaska would help. But look at the Yale Early Action Decision Thread… they turn down top kids.

honestly, with HYP, its difficult to tell. people can be very qualified (like you seem to be) and still get rejected just because of the other thousands of very qualified applicants applying. try and make your essay stand out and that can help you. also your ethnicity will help, if you are an urm or orm, etc. it would really help if you were like native american, lol.

as for other schools- georgetown is good for international relations, so is boston college, upenn- obviously for econ, mit has a very good undergrad business school- sloan- also something to consider if you want compsci, emory, uva, notre dame, michigan, nyu, etc. there are a ton of schools that have great econ, int’l relations and comp sci programs- you just need to decide what kind of school you’re looking for.

good luck!

thanks for the info guys…fyi, im an ORM from NJ, which probably hurts me lol…

anyone else? i’d appreciate some more college suggestions, b/c i want to visit some soon

just like your name, you THINK, therefore you ARE going to harvard…lol

You seem like you could fit in anywhere, though.
