Also, my ACT essay was rather low. However my SAT essay was relatively high. Will colleges acknowledge that I am still a strong writer. The ACT prompt was about using GPS tracking on children. It was not very "writer-friendly" in my perspective. Do colleges focus heavily upon the ACT essay score? Also, should I submit both tests or just one of them? Thank you

All of your stats look really good, but to be honest, your SAT scores are alarmingly low for someone with your GPA. How are you in Calc BC, yet you only managed a 650 on the math SAT? This may raise a bit of a red flag for admissions counselors…If I were you I would really try and raise your standardized test scores. Other than that, looks good.

The SAT just didn’t seem to be my type of test. I scored a 30 on the ACT Math and had a composite of 30. I would say that is much stronger. I have scored very high on all the math tests I have taken in school and on New York State’s Regents examinations.

Correct me if I am wrong but the colleges usually take your higher score out of the Standardized tests. So if I submit my ACT and SAT they can see my strong essay and writing on the SAT, but overall can see my ACT as being respectable.

Maybe you should study for the ACT and take it again.

Have you contacted the track coach, if you plan on running for W&M?

Have you thought of applying early decision?

Good luck!

Glad to hear you’re interested in W&M.

We’d concur with some other posters that your ACT is a tad low for OOS. Our OOS middle 50% range is 31-32 so we would recommend that you try to that test again in September as we will take your best score. Your ACT is significantly better than your SAT as it stands so no need to submit your SAT.

Also, you mentioned only 3 AP courses and they’re all in math/sci. Does your high school offer more? 3 APs total is a tad low for those whose high schools offer upwards of 10-15 APs which many do. If your HS does offer more APs, we’d definitely recommend taking some APs in the humanities/social science to provide your strength across the curriculum.

Being Student Government VP for three years (especially if that’s student government VP as opposed to class VP) is very impressive (it’s impressive either way really). Be sure to highlight that accomplishment as well as your awards.

Remember, W&M is highly selective, especially OOS so while we’d encourage any interested student to apply because our holistic process ensures every student a chance, just remember that we are selective.
