Chance a worried nelly?

Hi all!

I am a current junior at a public high school in northern virginia (in state). I have been looking into colleges, and UVA is my dream school. I know its very early, but I want to know if I stand a chance.

My school normally sends 15-30 kids every year to uva. But, my GPA is lacking. I have a 4.09 and a 33 ACT. My counselor told me the average accepted GPA from my school last year was a 4.18 :(

Do you think my extracurricular activities will overshadow my low GPA?

Varsity basketball
Varsity Track and field
Varsity football

Washington Wizards internship
Training to become an EMT with the local fire department
several service awards
IB Diploma candidate (Hardest possible course load)
DECA Nationals
FBLA Regionals
VA Deca Honor Society
National Honor Society
Social Studies national honor society
Earth Force member
Business plan competition finalist at George Washington University

ANY advice / feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you

How does your ACT compare to your class? A 33 is definitely in the higher range for UVA and I wouldn’t stress too much about having a slightly slower average GPA compared to your class, your chances are still excellent, and if you’ve taken statistics you should realize how easily data can be skewed due to outliers. For all you know the previous class had the valedictorian at a 4.5 or so and the rest at a 4.0.

So don’t stress, as an instate applicant from anywhere else in VA youd be in as NoVA applicant your chances go down a bit but you still seem very competitive
