Hi, thanks for reading this message. I willl try my best to chance back ASAP if you reply my thread.

I am a rising senior from a large high school in CT and I am applying for college for the class of 2014 (So I am graduating in June 2010). I am biracial (my mom is Nigerian and my dad is white) but I identify and usually list myself as African American. I have three brothers and a sister who will also be attending college at the same time as me, because I am the eldest of quadruplets.

Colleges I am Considering:
Yale University
Wesleyan University (in Middletown, CT)
Vassar College
University of Chicago
NYU - Gallatin
Fordham University
UConn
Maybe Dartmouth

If you know of any colleges that are a good fit for me, please let me know. I want to do an interdisciplinary major studying photojournalism, comparative literature, drama, & maybe philosophy or multicultural studies of some kind. Thanks for your time!

P.S. I can get excellent recommendations from my teachers because I and my siblings are very well known at my school & in my community.

P.P.S. I also qualified for the National Merit Scholarship thingy for the PSAT and I sent my info to Wesleyan & Yale. I don’t know if that counts for much, but I’m pretty sure I might get the Black National Merit Scholarship this fall in my senior year due to my PSAT scores…

i personally think you’ll get in everywhere, there’ll be a bunch of people who disagree. but i think your URM status + NM & test scores is enough.

Thanks for the chance, I appreciate it. Anyone else have any thoughts? I’d appreciate as much input/comments as possible. Bump!

In at all of them except Yale which is a Reach.
The thing with schools like Yale is that you can never tell but since you are a URM it is a good chance. The rank and gpa are a bit low but you can bring them up a bit more in your senior year.

I think you’ve got good shots at all of them, save yale and uchicago which are reaches

Thanks a lot for your input!! Anybody else? I’d love some more comments! Bump!!

As a Yale alumni interviewer, my concern would be that you have TOO many activities and I would want to see more focus and commitment. EC’sare not like beads to be put on a string but rather foundation stones to build a life upon. You will need to show not just what you participated in but how you made a permanent difference in those organizations that you selected carefully to channel your effort. Top colleges are not looking for sheep but for shepherds…Best of luck!

Thanks for chancing me. Being African-American really gives you a really big advantage. Also, your ECs are very extensive, and you have pretty solid test scores.
Yale University-reach
Wesleyan University (in Middletown, CT)-don’t know much about it…sry.
Vassar College-don’t know much about it…sry. But according to college board, you are def competitive.
University of Chicago-reach
NYU - Gallatin-in i think?
Fordham University-never heard of it
UConn-in i think?
Maybe Dartmouth-low reach; high match
Good luck!!!

Wow! Didn’t expect an alumni! Thanks so much for the input! For the record, some of the things I did early on in high school because I wasn’t sure what I liked yet or I stopped going because they interfered with schoolwork. Other clubs I found later on in high school & now I love them! On my original resume I really narrowed it down to the ones that I spent the most time in/loved the most, but here I just put everything I did because I wasn’t sure what to exclude. Thanks so much for the advice, YaleAlum. And thanks msmalik428. Anyone else? Bump!

I can’t really help on the chancing but if you’re a quad, you wouldn’t have three brothers and a sister applying at the same time, would you?

lol whoops sorry, I mean 2 brothers and a sister. lol that’s an ironic/funny mistake there… anyone else with some chances? bump!

“Black National Merit Scholarship” is called National Achievement Scholar.

Have you been to Nigeria?

Thanks Shrinkrap, I wasn’t sure what it was called, I just know I checked off the box on the PSAT. Anymore input? So far it’s been helpful! Bump!

Yeah I’ve been to Nigeria, Shrinkrap. Awesome place. Anyone else for comments? Last call for your thoughts and comments, I really appreciate it! Bump!

Quadrupulets? Incredible.

Yale University-reach
Wesleyan University (in Middletown, CT)-Don’t know
Vassar College-Match
University of Chicago-Low reach
NYU - Gallatin-Match
Fordham University-I don’t know
UConn-Match
Maybe Dartmouth-low reach; high match

Best of luck to you!

Thanks seattleyj, we need all the luck we can get. Any more thoughts? I’m feeling reassured now and not as worried; all your comments have been very helpful. I’ll def let you all know in April about which colleges I got into, so tune in this spring if you want to check the validity of your predictions. Or I might make a post for it, which is easier… Anyway, any last thoughts, please? I appreciate it a lot! bump!

BTW, do any of you think I should retake the SAT I to bring up my math score? I’ve taken the SAT I three times now. I think I’ve done about as much as I can, but I’m sure if I really buckled down and studied I could probably get at least a 650 on M, although I’m not sure if I can repeat that 800 on CR… any advice/comments please? Bump!

Some more thoughts please! BUMP!!!
