Essays: The one's I've finished so far have been excellent, by my standards; my English teacher also very much enjoyed the ones she's seen, including my Common App essay.
Recs: I asked teachers whose classes I've enjoyed and who enjoyed having me as a student for multiple years.

The Dream Schools:
UChicago (I applied EA)
Macalester College
NYU

Concerns: I know my GPA is very low for all three schools, but will my class rank help to balance this? I also lack prestigious awards.

your help is greatly appreciated!! I'll chance back, I promise!

Rank is what matters, not GPA. I’d say you’re easily into NYU and Macalester and certainly have a shot at Chicago.

I agree, class rank is what matters, because it shows that your GPA is higher than 93% of your class! Since some schools grade harder/easier, class rank is a good mark, so I don’t think that will be a problem.

I think you’ve got a pretty good shot at all of the schools you listed!
I think you’ll definitely get into Macalester, likely get into NYU, and you have a great chance at UChicago for sure, though it’s the hardest on your list.

Overall, things lookin’ good for you :D

Help me out?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1026280-please-help-me-out-im-stressing-i-will-chance-back.html#post1065837672</a></p>

So, I read your whole thing over very carefully and inferred that you aren’t a math and science whiz, definitely leans more towards English. I think this is fine, even good, considering colleges see much more math whizzes than reading/writing whizzes. On top of that, you took all of the honors math and science courses, which shows you like to stretch yourself beyond just what you’re good at. Your ECs show depth in what you’re passionate in, and your awards are just fine. Your recs and essays will be pretty good, I imagine. Your SAT and ACT are pretty good too, but you really should have sent in your SAT IIs.

Malacaster-safety
NYU-match
UChicago-low reach, but I feel like they’ll swing towards you in your favor

Good luck! :)

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1025558-h-n-3-m3-0r-w-ll-thr0w-v3g3t-bl3-y0ur-f-3-a.html</a></p>

Im thinking Chicago is definitely the biggest reach, the GPA is low but rank is still high. You look to be in contention for all of them. Chicago I’d give maybe a 20% chance; which isnt bad for a school of such notability. good luck!

chance me please

Your credentials are so amazoing… your defo in at NYU and Macalester… Uchicago is a clear high match since they don’t care much about test scores… with EA on Uchicago having a significant increase in admissions it might even fall to the match category…

good luck!

please chance back!:

:)

yaintime21, you’re absolutely right! I am hardly a math/science person, but I try to do my best. I plan to major in Linguistics/International Relations, so hopefully the math will be kept to a minimum once I get out of freshman courses.

Everyone else: thanks for the encouragement! I’ll start chancing everyone back right now.

Anyone else? I greatly appreciate the help.

bump!

10char

Woot woot lit maaaag~
I’m pretty sure you’ll get into all of those places. Macalaster’s a safety and I think even UChicago will accept you.

Haha and I just saw you chanced me as I’m doing you. That’s pretty amusing. Thanks and good luck.

well your gpa isnt the highest but your rank is great. our stats are about the same and im applying for nyu too so ill see you there hopefully
but i’d say its a high match
uchicago is definitely a reach, and i really dont know about the other one sorry :s

with your sat score and other academic achievements
i’d say you are sure in for NYU and macalaster
Uchicago would be a fit, i’d say.

good luck!

Chance back please

wanton: CT lit nerds, ftw! Thanks for the chance, and I hope you get into Smith!

andrewliu93: Thanks, and I’ll chance you back right now.

I’d say you don’t have a bad shot at any of those!

Uchicago- I hear they don’t look at writing score- you should definitely boost that math score!! mid reach, w/ higher math: low reach

NYU - Match

Macalester - Match

Chance, will chance back! [url=<a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=1028062&referrerid=421954]Chance”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=1028062&referrerid=421954]Chance for Toppies! Will chance BACK! - College Confidential/url

GOOD LUCK!

yaintime21/everyone: I didn’t do great on my SATIIs, which I only took once: 730 in lit, 660 history, and 600 Math II. Should I have sent the lit score, at least, to UChicago, or will my high English/Reading scores be enough?

Macalester / low match
NYU / match
UChicago / low reach

Not much to worry about here - Mac is a good safety, NYU is a good bet and Chicago’s within range.

bump!

as with other posts you have a good shot everywhere. chance me back http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1033113-chance-me-ill-chance-you-back.html</a></p>

Solid test scores, high rank, course rigor, etc-you have a lot going for you

Macalester-in
NYU-match
UChicago-low reach

You’re competitive @ UChicago, best wishes :)

Macalester and NYU you’ll get in. UChiacago may or may not accept you, it really could go either way.

Do me?

I think you can make it into all three. U Chicago is definatly the toughest, but I think you can make it. EC’s and grades are all good.

Chance back?
