Chance above average student

Hey..

I'm looking to apply to Pitt, Dickinson, Lehigh maybe..

Actually I also need help of some other colleges that are a good fit for me in Pennsylvania, Ohio area.

I took the SAT twice and I'm taking it again in October.

Subscored: CR: 540 M:590 W:630

I'm hoping to improve a lot in October. I have been been reviewing/practicing a lot throughout the summer, especially on critical reading.

My Weighted Cumulative GPA is 3.9581, UW:3.8140
My W Rank is 41/389.

My ECS aren't bad either.

What do you guys think about my chances for the schools above and also any ideas for other schools (realistic)reach/good match/safety?? thanks

bbbuuummmppp

Penn State and UMaryland might be good matches for you
just get that SAT uppppppppppppppp

You should get into Pitt and Dickenson easily. I also don’t expect Lehigh to be a problem.

If you can get the SAT scores up slightly (like 100 points total), then Swarthmore is a good fit. Villanova is also a good fit now. I also think that Penn State and Maryland are matches for you right now.

Thanks a lot guys.

I was actually thinking about Villanova. I think it might be a little too far for me though (5 hours). Penn State is also too big for me.

Swarthmore would be a high reach still I think with even a 100 pt. increase, don’t you think?

Anybody else???

bbbummpppp…

anyone else chance me for the schools i mentioned based on the information and also safe/realistic reach/good match schools around the ohio, pennsylvania region?

I don’t know about the schools to which you’re applying, but I second Oprah!'s recommendation of University of Maryland. UMD at College Park is really good and quite competitive OOS (so get the SATs up a little!), and you could look into other campuses, too.

In at all. You should apply to UMD definitely. SAT score will probably go up if you’re taking again too.

[thread=546604]If you’d like to chance me[/thread]

Why does everyone think UMD?

What is so attractive about the school?

I do not know much about it. Fill me in on some information.

Its a fairly strong school, not as obscure in some aspects. Also slightly more prestigious, and I think it carries more weight in a lot of areas. IMHO

Definitely Penn State University Park and UMD. You fit into the grades for both and they are a common choice for that region that you are talking about. Best of luck.

I agree with the other people, and if you like Dickinson–Franklin&Marshall, Bucknell, and Lafayette are very comparable.

In Ohio, you might want to check out Oberlin, Kenyon, and Case Western

Hope that helps

I’m from around here, and… Idk, it’s really well-respected in a lot of fields. It’s ranked 54th on US News and World Report – really highly for a public school. There’s an Honors program, a Gemstone program (if I’m not confused, that’s the one that gives you a research grant O__O), and a few more programs for outstanding students… anddd a lot of merit aid for those who qualify.

Wow thanks everyone.

sagecoll..that’s funny you mention some of those schools. I just received a letter from Franklin&Marshall in the mail and I was thinking about Case Western but it’s so expensive. And I heard Oberlin wasn’t that great from someone. I think Penn State might be too big for me, but you guys are right that is a good fit. I guess I should look at UMD.

But the only thing is..

it’s already August. I feel like I am running out of time! And it’s going to be hard to visit some of these schools. like maryland is 4 and a half hours from where i live.

buummppppp

“And I heard Oberlin wasn’t that great from someone.”
I toured the campus and personally liked it… then again, the albino squirrel of that one quad was quite intriguing, maybe that was why
It does have certain events in the year (like Drag Ball) that could be hazardous (though I only hear of it second or third hand). However, I enjoyed the campus (the library helped me ENORMOUSLY because Charles Finney, a revivalist in the 19th century that I was doing a paper on, was its second president), though I know not whether it would be right for you (visited both it and Case in a day - Obie won between the two for me =P). Where are your interests?

Any other ideas that have not been mentioned?

And anyone else agree with comments said above?
