I really want to go to Cornell's AEM. Applying ED... or u can suggest some other colleges for me.... thx

please help me... crying for help

you seem like a fine fit, assuming your grades are good enough (you didn't speak much of your grades)

raise your critical reading past a 720+ and I'd say you have a great shot ED.

As chendrix said, raise your CR score and then you have a decent shot, provided you have good essays and recs.

thx, guys... really appreciate ur help. but what grades are good enough? just curious

We couldn't really tell you because grades differ widely across high schools and class rank is used to equalize them among high schools, but your school doesn't have class rank. I've met many valedictorians and salutatorians here.

If you have close to straight A's then you should be good.

hmm you kind of remind me of me this time last year.

i'd say you have a good shot...

a lot hinges on those recs and essays though-Make them Good!

Lucaskhan, thx, but did u apply to Cornell? and did u get in?
yeah, i will definitely put a lot of efforts into my essay, and i think my teacher recs are good.

masha#1: Since Cornell's AEM is moving up the ranking each year, its student quality is rising significantly as well. You should keep that in mind. That means, you should improve your SAT Reasoning. Your SAT IIs are solid, and there is no need to retake.

I recommend you to eliminate Key Club and Bowling JV unless you have leadership positions in those ECs, since to me (and consequently maybe to Admission officers) you have not been very active in those ECs. Elimination of these activities will make your application look more focus. Hope my recommendations are helpful. Best wishes! :D

Since you are interested in business, I recommend you to search up UPenn, UMichigan - Ann Arbor, UC - Berkeley, MIT, University of Virginia, Carnegie Mellon (if you are also interested in computer science). There are myriad of colleges that have excellent business faculty. Good luck!!!

Also, you need to watch out how you define "good essay." I have seen the so-called "good essays" and they are completely rubbish, and not revealing at all. Just a friendly reminder ^.^~

thank you, Shifu Yoda. yeah, i will be extra careful with my essay, hopefully it will be personal and revealing. yeah, i know CR is now my major problems but it's not really very easy for me, but still needs to study hard.

thx, everyone, but i still wonder if AEM is a pure business program or is it more towards science and agriculture? I visited its website a few times, but it is strong in Finance?

AEM is a pure business program. However, according to the website, it strongly encourages you to take agriculture courses.

AEM is very strong in finance, it was ranked #1 for Financial Management by Businessweek this year

Undergrad B-School Rankings: Interactive Table

I'm in AEM, and nobody "strongly encouraged" me to take agriculture courses. I'm too lazy to look at the website, however, in practice I have never heard of an AEM advisor strongly encouraging non-agriculture majors to take ag courses.

masha - I think it looks good that you are taking both calc and stats... however, does your school offer calc BC? With your SAT II Math scores, I wonder why you are not taking the most challenging calc, unless it's the highest level your school offers.

Hydrangea, thx first. yeah about Calc BC, even though my SAT I and II math score are good, but my school math grade are not that great, i got B's in last and this year's math honors classes. it's kinda my fault, but o well.
But i know i can do well in math if i really study hard, and i want to take BC, but counselor won't let me, saying i already doubled up in two ap math courses, and my grades are not that strong. do you think the Bs in my math class will hurt my chance? thx

i am not a student who is strong in science, do u guys think it will hurt my chance, since CALS is kinda science and agriculture college.
and to people who are in AEM or got into AEM, what did u write in ur college essay, like the one for your specific college within cornell? i am kinda stuck on that.....

i'm not strong in math or science, but i still challenged myself by taking harder classes, ie: calc bc, physics b. mainly, colleges want to see that you're challenging yourself, but not to the point of exhaustion - get decent grades in those classes and you'll be fine.

i would recommend that you take calc bc though, because AEM (if you want to do accounting/finance) is more math-based than, say, ILR or Hotel Management.

as for the essay, it's more of why AEM/CALS is a good fit for you - you can't write what other people have written. if you have to do that, then AEM isn't for you.

bump bump....

yes to both your questions.

I think the essay wanted us to write about improving life or something like that so in my essay I wrote about how the skills you learn in business can be used to help other people, only I wrote it more eloquently.

I thought that they emphasized bio more than any other science, either way I didn't take AP bio and that wasnt a dealbreaker
