AP Scores: three 5s now, predicting six 5s and one 4.

ECs: Skiing (9-12). Varsity (10-12). Captain 12? Club skiing 9-12 as well. Lots of hours and potential essay topic about summer skiing. Some skiing related volunteering. I also coach little kids in skiing as a job (11-12).
Music (9-12). I play bass in a jazz group and play frequently in town. In 10th grade I performed with my combo at a national competition. Played in the pit for the school musical 11th, presumably 12th. I also compose some. May send a music supplement.
Math Club (10-12) Secretary, compete in a few competitions.
Green Team (10-12) Do recycling and help encourage sustainability.
NHS (10-12) some volunteering through NHS.
SSP between 11th and 12th.
I will probably do some work with an astronomy professor at my local university senior year.

Recs: Most likely will get from precalc/stats teacher and IB English teacher. Both should be very good if not amazing.

Essays: I have a few ideas, they should turn out well.

Very strong scores and grades. Geographic location helps too. I think if you apply early you would have a great chance.
Good luck!

As long as your letters and essays are solid you should be in a good position (with a comparable/stronger profile than the students at our school who were admitted this year).

Go for it! Your academic record and SATs are strong; your school is known for producing some great skiiers; and its IB program is one of–I think–only two or maybe three in Alaska. Your skiing/jazz combo portrays a passionate and disciplined person. If your Astronomy work should involve the Planetarium with its innovative programs, that will make your record shine even more. A letter from the Astronomy professor would be a nice addition. :)
