Chance an American for LSE Undergrad!

So I applied for both BSc Economics and BSc Econometrics and Mathematical Economics (you can do that right?) and I feel thoroughly clueless about what LSE looks for. From what I understand its all about test scores so here's what I got:

ACT: Math 35, Reading 34, Science 36, English 35, Essay 8

SAT Subject Tests: 770 Math II, 770 Chemistry

AP: 5 US Government, 4 Chemistry, 4 Computer Science AB, 5 Calc AB, 4 English Lang, 4 Physics C Mech, 5 Macroeconomics, 5 Microeconomics, 4 Comparative Gov.

Predicted AP: 5 Calc BC, 5 Statistics, 5 Physics C E&M, 4 English Literature, 5 European History

My referee is my AP Econ teacher, and I was the top of his class so I'm hoping his letter of rec was good.

I self-studied comp sci and comparative gov(although I'm not sure my referee mentioned this). Neither of us mentioned that I am taking Differential Equations either, which covers most of the first year math course at LSE. Is there any way to send LSE this information after the fact?

Also, if I am qualified for both Econometrics and regular Econ will I receive offers for both or what?

When did you apply? Before or after January 15th?

What did you write about in your personal statement - how much you want to study the subject? Or how you are a well rounded person?

To include that information, you can phone UCAS and get them to change it.

If you applied before the deadline, and wrote a decent PS then I would say that you have a fair chance of getting in. Did you apply to any other UK universities on UCAS?

I think your AP scores and projected AP scores are excellent, and you would meet the standards for admission at ANY UK college or uni.

As boomting is saying, as long as you have those scores, they will be focusing on personal statement and interview. They are looking for folks who are willing to devote themself to their chosen subject, not someone who is “well-rounded”.

I applied on the 15th(UK Time), so my app was on time. I also applied to UCL Economics. How are my chances for that?

This is my personal statement. Do guys think it’s good?

"Economics, in its broadest sense, is the study of decision making. In this day and age, an understanding of how people make decisions is relevant and applicable across practically every aspect of modern society. This has inspired me to pursue further education in the field of economics.

I was the top of my junior year AP Macro/Micro Economics class and I received a 5 in both exams. In addition, I have enriched my understanding of economics and its applications through extracurricular activities as well.

Since my freshman year of high school I have been a member of the Future Business Leaders of America, the largest student organization in the world. My experiences in FBLA introduced me to the pivotal role economics plays in management decisions and the success of all firms, which initially sparked my interest in the subject. I competed in the Economics division at the state and national levels, placing second and fifth respectively. I also conducted two educational workshops about game theory and exchange traded funds at the national conference.

My four years in Model United Nations and my exposure to the emerging economy of India led me to explore economics in a developmental and international context. I was fascinated by how geography, public policy, and culture could influence developmental trends, and by the implications these trends have in decision making around the world. I continue to follow international affairs, and the actions organizations such as the IMF, World Bank, and the UN take to facilitate development.

I hold a strong interest in technology, and believe that the fields of engineering and economics are not mutually exclusive. My summer internship at a civil engineering firm and my position as chief programmer of the school robotics team has taught me the importance of effective management and allocation of resources. My understanding of technology has also improved my understanding of economics by allowing me to more accurately judge the implications of advances in science and engineering.

I am also a novice investor and have written some analysis pieces. I have received over 22,000 page views and was ranked as high as 8th in the Exchange Traded Fund Analysis category. The trades I proposed in my articles have done very well to date. I proposed an options strategy on a popular silver ETF, and a bullish strategy on an inverse volatility ETN which returned 34 fold and 100% respectively. I found that an understanding of economic concepts, such as money supply, inflation, and futures term structures, as well as mathematical knowledge was vital in making these decisions.

It is my firm belief that an education in economics is diverse in its applications and especially important in a world that is trending towards globalization. I wish to expand my knowledge of the subject at a UK university because they offer a more focused and accelerated education than US universities, while maintaining academic rigor."

It’s fine, but it’s a spectacularly bad idea to post your PS online. They use Turnitin to check for plagiarism on PS, and posting it here could lead to it being found and you done for plagiarism. I’ve reported the post, but please remove it for your own sake if CC hasn’t done so already.

LSE looks for good grades. Your position to pay international fees also puts you ahead of a lot of other applicants.

That said, you’re in good shape. viel gluck.
