Chance an anxious Econ Major :(

can anyone chance me please?

Applying from: CCC, completed IGETC, First Generation South American, low income, 65 units.

Accepted to: CSULB, SFSU, CSUB so far.

Applying to (in choice order):
UCSB: completed all pre reqs offered at my CC except one(listed under planned for summer)
UCSC: completed all pre reqs offered at my CC except one (also listed for summer)
UCSD: all pre reqs offered at my CC completed; 3 don't articulate with my CC
UCI: all pre reqs completed
UCB: completed all pre reqs except one(also under planned for summer)

Major: Economics (UCSB) / Economics (UCSC)/ Political Science (UCSD)/ Criminology (UCI)/ Politcal Economy (UCB)
GPA: 3.52 (UC GPA after Fall 2012)

^Since I also applied for Econ, I will chance you based on my opinion.

You completed Igetc and major prereqs, that was great. All the UCs will notice this and give you a priority. Your GPA is decent. I wish I could have your GPA, I only have 3.35 lol.

UCSB - Yes, you are golden. If you want to take the stat course at summer, it’s better to notify them as soon as you get admitted.

UCSC - 99.9999999999% you will get in since you got the TAG.

UCSD - hard to say but you do have a nice shot on this one, depend on the amount of tagged applicants.

UCI - Yes sir! You are golden!

UCB - You have a chance since you applied for Political Econ which is not impacted. I think your two essays will mostly decide whether you will be admitted.

But at the same time, Political Econ has been realized by more and more applicants. Some of my friends they also applied to this major because regular Econ is way too impacted, which may not be a good news.

Take my words with a grain of salt. And the decisions from UCs are just right around the corner. Hope we both finally get into the UCs we desire!

UCSC, UCSB: In, or at least >90% chance imo

UCI: 85%

UCSD: Hard to say, 3 missing pre-reqs is a lot ~60%

UCB: Depends on your essays!

Dude who are you we are so alike… I’m South American too and I applied under UCI’s criminology and my major is Econ

TCCCOM: I hope so man, UCSB it’s where I want to go the most, but I heard they’re tough on pre-reqs, and I need summer to complete my last one…I’m very sure you’ll get in your top choices man! For UCB, that’s exactly why I applied under Political Economy. If a miracle happens, without a doubt I SIR there hahah,
Maninder: hopefully, my hardship story saves me(I tied it in with the essay question)

PccLancer: hahaah that’s awesome man, what country? (half salvi/half venezuelan)…what are your stats(gpa, etc) brah?

Peruvian
3.5 UC GPA After Fall lol completed IGETC

UCSB: You’ll most likely be denied because you have a Stats course planned in Summer. They require Econ majors to have those 4 pre-reqs completed by the end of Spring at the latest. (I asked them).

UCB: You have a shot if you have amazing essays.

You’re in at the rest of them.

Actually, you said you went to Bakersfield College right? And you took Math B2? If so, you’re done with your pre-reqs. Haha. Sorry for scaring you there.

Laringa: So, with completing Math B2 do you think my chances are okay or decent to UCSB?

Yup! You’re good, since it covers both 34A&B which means two Calculus courses. You’re doing yourself a favor financially by finishing Stats in the Summer. You won’t have to take that class at UCSB. You’ll only need to earn a “B” in Econ 10A at UCSB before enrolling into the full major.

Well hopefully we both get in and go catch some wave man!! haha

Lol! More like catch those beautiful hunnies on campus! I TAG’ed so I definitely expect to get in. This whole time I thought the Business Calculus course I took only counted toward Math 34A, but I e-mailed them and they said it counted toward 34A&B! I still took the Statistics course, so I’m done with everything. :)

Laringa, I got a response man…so now I all I can do is hope and wait…

"Dear Al,

Taking one of your major prep courses in the summer will not affect your admission eligibility to UCSB. Having all major prep courses completed by the spring is not a requirement for admission to UCSB.
Best wishes,

Haha we’re getting conflicting information then! The counselor I e-mailed yesterday said at least those four pre-reqs need to be completed by the end of Spring. Whatever the case is, we can take comfort in knowing we’ve finished them, so we’ll be fine.

@ramfan661 don’t worry man, I did see some applicants who got in with similar case as you from previous UCSB admittance thread. I do think you will have a good chance. By the way, have you already completed the english & math requirement for UC?

TCCCOM: you saw this for Econ transfers?? and yeah I did trigtwo semesters ago, and english 3 semesters ago man.

^ Yeah, you could try to search this whole site, there was an official 2012 ucsb transfer admittance thread. did u complete calculus 1 and 2?

Trig doesn’t count as a transferable Math course. I know that most people who didn’t have their two English courses and at least one math done by the end of Fall got rejected last year.

Laringa: Yes it does, I also took a pre calculus course that was a pre-req to get in to trig which was also transferable…And I took Behavioral Stats, and now business Calc…to much math :(

Really? Check again on Assist. I really don’t think it does. It doesn’t matter though since you’ve already taken a transferable math. All is good. :)
