Excellent teacher recommendations
Amazing essay about dance with hook(s)

Please chance me! Will chance back!

Your sat is on the lower side (ESP for an Asian) and the fact that you took 2 math sat iis is bad. But your rank and school mark, as well as your fantastic ECs, make you a competitive candidate. Harvard and the other top ivies are crapshoots. But I think you have good chances. Chance back please!

If your HS has sent grads to ivies in the past that is a good indication.

Being realistic is recognizing that you are the valedictorian at a small school yet ‘only’ achieved a SAT score of 2200, which is great, you are in the 98%. On the other hand there are around 20,000 others with similar or greater 2011 SAT composite score. http://media.collegeboard.com/digitalServices/pdf/SAT-Percentile-Ranks-Composite-CR-M-W-2011.pdf</a>

Good luck. My suggestion is if you love dance and want that to be a major/minor in college, finding a dance program that wants can been a great hook with your stellar academics. Applying without the ‘tip’ from the dance department could dilute the value of your special interest. Remember the admission office isn’t qualified to figure out if you would make a contribution to the college community as a dancer, only the dance department is. If they don’t know who you are, well you are a nobody to them.

I’d say you’re a pretty good candidate for the schools you’re applying to.
Even with great apps like this, you can never be too sure with those schools.
Your SAT M+CR composite might be a bit low compared to that of other applicants.
However, your outstanding school record will definitely make you stand out.
Just try to write great essays. Good luck.

Chance me http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1247348-chance-me-please.html</a></p>

Thanks =)

I’d recommend taking the SAT again, but honestly, chances would not be above 25% with a 2400. Without an outstanding, national level EC, chances are minuscule for any unhooked student.

Your ECs are a little bland and your scores are a little low. Try and spice them up in your application if you can.

Care to answer my question? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1247527-how-badly-does-hurt-my-chances-top-schools.html</a></p>

Honestly, your CR score might kill you. I’d recommend Princeton Review. After that, you have a decent chance!

Chance back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1247577-any-recommendations.html#post13499021</a></p>

You’re definitely qualified. Apply and hope for the best.

Yeah, the CR is a killer, but everything else looks good. Interesting things like the break dancing and math education make you stand out. Expect the worst (esp. with Harvard where a majority of applicants who get in have a hook of some sort and spots are reserved for major national award winners), but hope for the best. But you look pretty genuine…it seems like you do things because you love to, not for college. Hopefully that shined through your essays. If not Harvard, some other great school. Good Luck.

@dblazer

thanks, I know CR is my worst, but I’m hoping my dance essay will stand out!

Also, isn’t it true that people without national rewards or recognition make it to top schools like Harvard as well?

I’ve competed in a national math competition as the leader, if that helps

Oh sorry, I didn’t mean to suggest that you needed major national awards to have a shot at harvard, I was just suggesting that there are so many groups such as those with legacy, or come from a feeder school, or are a URM, or firstgen, or are low-income, or have a geographic hook, or have a have high accomplishment (national awards) such as USAMO, Intel, etc. that not as many spots are left for an unhooked public school asian, (wait, do you go to public school?) I’m just suggesting that from that standpoint, odds are clearly against you. But again your application isn’t totally like that of a typical asian, making you stand out a little and I think you have some good stories to tell.

I go to a public school with a rigorous but small IB program, last year we had 3+ ivy leaguers and other top schools (good considering our small class)

just for the lolz, how can I make my application less Asian, in the good/unique way?

Your grades & ECs are great, but like everyone else said, the SAT might be a killer. Also, I don’t think Harvard accepts both math SAT subject tests for their subject test requirement:

[Harvard College Admissions § Applying: Requirements](http://www.admissions.college.harvard.edu/apply/application_process/requirements.html)

You’ll probably have to take another SAT subject test. Good luck though!

harvard is tough, I think your ec’s are a little spread out to be competitive. I mean, what have you done that is so spectacular that admissions is going to be like, “we want this kid!” They are no doubt good, but there isn’t anything there that would really make you stand out. good luck!

If you want to change your odds, get another 120 points on the CR section. But honestly, it’s highly unlikely to change them enough to be admitted.

Breakdance might Be enough if you were a professional, but a school club is unlikely to be noted.

^ I disagree, starting a successful break dancing club not only shows passion, but is a unique talent that can distinguish the applicant from the rest of the applicant pool.

Math I higher than Math II is very rare. Your chances are okay but nothing much stands out in your application.

I’ve actually done a lot of leadership activities; class president, honor council, math captain etc. how can i emphasize those to make me stand out?

bump!!!

I really want to say that you’ll get in. You are obviously qualified and could probably be a competitive applicant. However, I think your scores and numbers overall are going to hurt you, plus your anti-hook which won’t help. I think you should apply, but definitely definitely definitely look at safer bets.
