Chance an Asian for US please

Hi guys, I'm new to the whole colleges and chancing deal, and would just like to briefly state my situation and ask for some advice

Personal Info.
Female
Indian from South-East-Asia (not India)
Very competitive school sending many to top unis

Grades
SAT 1: Math, Writing, Reading: 800,800, 720
GPA: (this is for grade 10): 3.67 -- there is no such thing as weighted/ unweighted and 4.0 is the max, but no one ever gets it
Grades currently: studying for GCEs at the moment so no nation-wide grades benchmarking at the moment but my predicted grades are good.
Course load: most rigorous, taking the max allowed

Activities

2 academic scholarships by the government (based on merit and not needs-based)

deep interest in arts/writing:
--> actress 3 drama public performances
--> ticketing for several productions
--> mentor at a youth camp
--> Stage manager for a Arts Extravaganza Public Performance
--> Exec. Comm member of school newspaper
--> Exec Comm of school Arts Council
--> Been selected/ sponsored for three school trips to Europe for subjects like history, literature

Others:
--> Cambridge Summer School participant
--> Internship at a prestigious law firm
--> Model United Nations delegate

What are my chances for:
Columbia, Cornell, Princeton, Stanford, Brown, UCLA, UC Berkeley, NYU, U Chic., U Penn

And any other advice?

RJ?

10 char.

^ Sounds like. Hwa Chong doesn’t give out GPAs out of 4. Is one of the the two scholarships ESIP?

Princeton - Highly unlikely to unlikely.
Stanford - Unlikely.
Penn Wharton - Unlikely.
Columbia Arts/Science - Unlikely to Maybe.
Cornell Arts/Science - Maybe.
Brown - No idea.
UC Berkeley - Maybe to likely.
NYU Stern - Likely to safety.
Chicago - Depends a lot on your Chicago specific essay. Maybe.

I assume you do not need FA. If you do, move all chances down (except Princeton) one to two notches. If you are applying to Columbia and Cornell’s engineering school and applying to an NYU school other than Stern, move those chances up one to two notches.

RJ? No I’m not in Hwa Chong. I think you guys are from Singapore right? I’ve jumped systems so not quite there. erms yeah NYU isn’t for business. and yeah no FA atm. Hm the ones i really wanted were columbia/ cornell and brown.

Thanks frankchn.

Anyone else?

Were you predicted straight A’s for A-levels? Any info on class rank? Great SAT, okay-ish ECs. I’d say Princeton, Stanford, Columbia, Penn and Brown are definite reaches; Cornell & Chicago possible; UCs and NYU probable.

I should be predicted straight A’s for A levels. No information on class rank. It’s not available.

Thanks kthanksbye.

Anyone else? I will chance back!

Columbia: Reach
Cornell: Low Reach
Princeton: High Reach
Stanford: High Reach
Brown: Low Reach
UCLA: Low Reach
UC Berkeley: Low Reach
NYU Stern: Match
uChicago: Low Reach
uPenn: (Wharton: High Reach) (Non-Wharton: Low Reach)

Advice?
Well, your list is pretty ambitious- I’d suggest you add in a few more higher-chance schools just to be on the safer side! Good luck!!

thanks 100%Tuna! I have to be perfectly honest and say that i’m not too clear what “low reach” means. And this is going to sound terribly stupid but “Reach” is above “low reach” right?

haha! alright! here’s how it works! :)

in decreasing order of how difficult it is to get in!

no-chance/impossible > high-reach > reach > low-reach > high-match > match > low-match > safety :)

what safety schools would you recommend I apply to? Or low-match? Anyone?

depends on what you want to major in…

eg. georgia tech, purdue and michigan are great for engineering… and are fairly easy to get into (safety-to-low-match levels) :)

Do consider our local universities as well for safeties - with your profile your education could well be free and you can apply to grad school in the US free of debt.

From what I have read, it is actually harder for Asians to get accepted to many elite schools than other people. Especially if you have accomplished parents.

The reason is that many Asian students study very hard and do very well in high school. This means that the elite schools get over representation from some Asian profiles.

It is not fair, but it is reality.

it seems like you want to do liberal arts?
assuming you are not applying for financial aid, i would be surprised if you did not get into at least 3 of the schools you mentioned, remember you only need one.
but if you are tinking of applying for fin aid, then it sorta changes (only b/c ur intl student)
pls chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/729105-chance-me-ill-chance-you.html

Thanks Confidentia. I don’t want to do liberal arts, but I would like to focus more on the arts side in a arts/sciences college.

Anyone else?]

Also, I cannot edit my post above but I thought I’d just summarize the stats chancers above asked me for:

No FA from the unis

Not applying for liberal arts

Not applying for Wharton/ NYU Stern (business scls)

Prediction for A levels: straight As as far as I know.

ooh, good luck w/ the A-levels. yea, if your not applying for aid,
then u should EASILY get into half the schools you mentioned, based on

  1. internship in a law firm and A-levels.
    good luck!

bump anyone else care to chance? I’ll be willing to chance back if you leave a link and if I feel like I know what i’m talking about when chancing cuz i’m quite new to this
