Chance an asian girl! Yale, Princeton, etc.

Advice please!
Sorry it's so long. Please chance me for Yale, Princeton, Carnegie Mellon, NYU, Columbia, Cornell, Ithaca, Brown, and UConn.
Above all, I fully realize my academic standing is not up to par (yet) for the Ivies, but I am sure I will boost them up.
I’m not your typical “textureless math grind” asian either.
I plan on stellar essays (lots of passion for theatre, creativity, helping others) and hopefully really lovely teacher recs.

Very unlikely

Constructive criticism please?

bump 10 char

unless you get your SAT way up you have no chance at ivies except for Yale, but you can still get into other great schools.

Sorry, but 96.8% of Princetonians are in the FIRST decile. Meaning you have basically no chance at Princeton. I don’t think Yale will give a **** about the legacy either unless you pull your grades and scores up.

SATS up! I don’t know what else to say but to get your GPA and SAT up, ECs loook good.
Thanks for chancing me.

You don’t mention current grade, is it possible to get into the top 5%? You would need to for any ivy including Yale as a legacy. Being Asian and from CT, you are in a brutally tough pool. I would have to say your list, other than Ithaca and UConn, is very ambitious given your stats. I would consider adding some more schools more competitive that Ithaca and less competitive than the ivies.

I love the ECs, but you, as stated, must bring your grades and SATs up. However, look around. There are plenty of awesome schools which are competative and Non-ivy. :D

You should realize what’s important and what’s not in your app…

Work experience. Definitely needs some work.

That’s some hook, but your SAT/Class rank make it highly unlikely that you will gain admission to the top tier of colleges. You would need to be a recruited athlete or a developmental recruit in order to overcome your academic and racial disadvantages.

Agree with rmadden15: look outside the Ivy League for some quality schools that are a good “fit” for you.

All the best to you during your college search!

p.s. - Is your mom named Angela? If so, I may know her!

…there’s a varsity math team? Do you need to try out like you would for a sports team? That might make a difference in being accepted to the colleges you want. I’m not sure if those college want students who were on the JV math team. I don’t think it’s good enough.

Hmom, I’m a junior and right now, it’s not too late to pull everything up. I’m doing as much as I can right now to raise everything, especially my GPA for class ranking and will be taking SATs again October (my twin brother got a 2300 when I scored that 2050, go figure)

Thank you Madden15 and Jamescchen. I didn’t list all the middle/safety schools on my mind. Also, no, my mom’s name isn’t Angela lol.

Pretty_vacant76, thank you for responding, but math isn’t what I really want to focus on so I don’t believe it will make a difference whether I’m on JV or V. You don’t try out for V, but only the top 5 are on the V team to represent the school.

Hurt, while I am applying for a summer job, my responsibilities at home as well as my time-consuming theatre position leave little room for work experience, and I know colleges will understand that at least I am taking some opportunities for work. Also, I am teaching piano to children over the summer.

Joshcanto, Yale makes a pretty big deal out of legacies, and both of my parents went. I know that doesn’t fix everything but my academic stats will definitely rise.

^ haha. People just love to spell your name wrong don’t they?

Anyways…It’s hard to be competitive if you’re not in the top 10%. Cross your fingers for that 2300.

Haha thanks, I know. ■■■, I’m the worst slacker asian!

your stats and everything else are great except your ranking and SAT score are really bringing you down. try to raise your SAT score & class rank. you have a lot going for yale if your parents went there.
BTW, i think you have a great chance at NYU even though it’s not your top choice.

No problem - I’m just saying that what you do have written is not of significance, really. Not everyone can have everything; people know that. But I suggest something more… “legitimate.”

Work experience looks ok…I know a girl at Brown who’s never had a job in her life!

yeah, I’m sure writing “random school end-of-the-year awards” will look good on your application.

Are you a junior? You need some more time to work on your GPA…and your SATs. Just like everyone else said. Concentrate on making more of an impact on few ECs rather than having a basket full of random things. Set yourself apart somehow…
