Chance me for -

UPenn
Columbia
Stanford
Lehigh University
NYU
JHU
Cornell

bummpp bummpp bumppp

UPenn - reach
Columbia - reach, higher than upenn i think
Stanford - high reach
Lehigh University - match
NYU - match (unless it’s stern)
JHU - low reach
Cornell - low reach

For UPenn, Columbia, Stanford and Cornell, there will be a lot of competition. They look for students who stand out, being an Asian that plays multiple varsity sports you stand out. But sometimes you don’t want to stand out, like an Asian that got less than 790 on Math I. They also look for passionate students who pursue one or two interests and go full-depth. So you might not want to include this whole list in your application essay.

President of student council is proof of leadership. Good.

If you redo your SAT’s and get 2360+ you MIGHT stand a chance. ( to the Ivies that is.)

a 740 on math 1! what kind of asian are you? =D

I’m almost positive that decent universities don’t accept people that use the word “nooby.”

Actually none of those are completely out of reach. You have some very good ec’s (e.g. sports and student council president), but I don’t know what happened on your test scores. They’re not terrible, but you should probably retake the SAT and hope for those 800’s you’re expecting.

haha. yes, my SAT I is pretty sad. but i plan on only sending my BIO, CHEM, MATH II scores. so it hides my low math I score. lol

bumppppppppppppp!

bumppppppppppppp!!

You have a lot of unrealistic schools given scores. You should add some schools where your stats are solidly above median.

yes. i know. the ivies. but i’m just trying my luck. i got lots of friends who got in with lower stats than me. so why not?

UPenn-Mid/High Reach
Columbia-Mid/High Reach
Stanford-High Reach
Lehigh University-?
NYU-High Match/Low Reach
JHU-High Match/Low Reach
Cornell-Low/High Reach

Sorry, but you sound (read) like a stereotypical Asian. Which isn’t a bad thing at all (I’m an Asian!), but is too common within the piles and piles College Applications. I do respect your leadership positions and wide berth of activities, but do you have the depth as well? Raise your SAT I and SAT II scores, since many other Asian boys (whom you will be matched up with) will have higher numerical values.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/746334-what-my-chances-these-liberal-arts-colleges-others.html

I’m not sure who your friends are, but the number of kids getting into Stanford or Columbia with a 600CR is minuscule, and given that 40% of the classes are comprised of recruited athletes, legacies,URMs and staff and development candidates, it doesn’t take rocket science to figure out who has the 600.

The chance of an unhooked Asian being accepted to an ivy with a 600 is probably one in a million unless they are brilliant and coming from Asia without ever having studied in English. I’m assuming you attend a US high school what with multi cultural day?

To be blunt, the why not is that you should focus your application efforts on schools you have a chance of getting into. And when the adcom at schools you are competitive for see your list it will decrease your chance because they will question, with good reason, whether they will yield someone who has been hoping for colleges in a different league.

errm. i’m not living in US.
thanks for your concern. ^^

wait, so ur not living in the US? so you’re a foreign applicant? cuz if ur international applicant then forget about it.
But if you’re US applicant then forget about Stanford, Columbia, Upenn, Cornell only. Hmom5 is right on the money(like always). You say you have friends who got in with lower profile but you should look at who DID NOT get in; try surfing this website for some “results” threads for Stanford, Upenn, Cornell, Columbia. You’ll realize how tough it is.

UPenn - reach
Columbia - reach
Stanford - reach
Lehigh University - match
NYU - match
JHU - low reach
Cornell - low reach

thanks.
anyone else? bumppppppppppppp!

and yes. i’m an international applicant. and i don’t think that will mean that all US unis would reject me.

well not all, but international admission is MUCH tougher than domestic. You’re an extremely weak applicant for atleast those top 4. once again, you’re new to the website and I encourage you to look around at the international applicants, you will see some amazing profiles.

of course. its all part of luck when it comes to those top unis.
and plus. some of those top unis are need blind and i’m not applying for financial aid anyways. so i would be ne considered in the same pool as US citizens.
thanks for your concern.

well its so hard to say since your out of the country, I’m asian but in the country and I think I’ll probably just end up going to my state univiersity too, which is not so bad actually.

UPenn -reach
Columbia -reach
Stanford -reach
Lehigh University -low reach/high match
NYU - match (if not stern)
JHU - low reach
Cornell - low reach

but yeah you need to definitely boost your SAT stats to have more of a fighting chance

chance back?
