[li] Important ECs: Drum major in the marching band for 2 years, tutor at a tutoring center, 8 years playing the clarinet, 4 years of math team, 4 years of Scholastic Bowl, 1 year of speech team, 2 years of NHS, 2 years of Link Crew (freshman support/leadership group), National Merit Semi-Finalist (hopefully Finalist eventually).
[/li]

I like my test scores, but my lack of awards (and opportunities) sucks.

Schools I'm considering:
UPenn (ED)
WUSTL
CMU
JHU
Cornell
UIUC
Northwestern
Vanderbilt
Duke

Any suggestions? Recommendations? Opinions?

Apply to the Jerman-Fischer Program (if that’s how it’s spelled) at UPenn. It’s joint engineering/business and is very prestigious.
Your scores are very very good but if you feel that the lack of opportunity is bringing you down, create your own opportunities. Take initiative. Awards aren’t that big of a deal in my opinion. Either way, I think you have good chances.

UPenn (ED) - Reach because it’s an Ivy, but apply to Jerman-Fischer and ED will help a lot
WUSTL - low reach/high match
CMU - high match
JHU - high match
Cornell - low reach
UIUC - safety
Northwestern - match
Vanderbilt - low match
Duke - low reach

Okay, thanks! I’ve looked into the program and it’s definitely something I’m interested in. I’ll probably apply ED with that as my first choice, and then use just chemical engineering as my second choice.

Argh. I posted that first one from my iPod and it’s a mess. Here’s a new one:
