Chance an aspiring transfer?

Hello!

I'm currently a freshman at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, hoping to transfer to Smith for Fall '10.

Basic
Age: 19
Race: White
From: Nebraska
Work experience: Have worked at a local movie theatre for 2.5 years

High school stats

SAT IIs: 740 US History, 750 World History, 770 Literature
APs not offered at my school, with the exception of AP Calculus...a subject I wasn't too keen on.

Mock Trial - 3 years - our team was one of 12 that advanced to State Mock Trial both junior and senior year

National Honor Society - 3 years
Green Club - 2 years
Awards/Honors: National Merit Commended Student, Girls State representative, Top Honors in a few classes every year, awarded the Regents Scholarship at UNO

College
GPA - Barring something going catastrophically wrong in the last 3 weeks of the semester, I should have a 4.0 or close to it, as I've gotten As on every test/quiz/paper/etc. so far.
Major: History and Government
ECs: Environmental Club - treasurer
Fencing
Nebraskans for Peace

Hoping to get some decent recs. from my professors, as I've done well academically and contributed to class discussions. My only worry is that they haven't known me long enough and don't know much about me outside of class. :/

I also visited campus last month and had an overnight and interview, all of which only cemented my love of Smith. <3

Any thoughts on my chances would be appreciated!

u look good
best of luck!!!

I don’t know a whole lot about transfer admissions admittedly, but your stats seem very strong and if you love Smith, you’ll probably be able to make a compelling case as to why you want to transfer, so I would say that on paper you seem to be what schools like Smith look for.

I think you could be a very strong transfer candidate. Your grades, tests, high school ECs all look excellent. I would take the opportunity, if you can, to get to know your current professors better, especially by going to their office hours, so they can give you recommendations with some depth. I know you just got started in college, but you don’t mention much for college ECs, so I would also see if you can beef them up a bit to show consistency in your effort to contribute to the school community or at least explain your current activities in greater detail. Other than that, keep up the good work! Good luck!

Thanks, all! :)

Stop by your professors’ offices a couple more times this semester, then stop by to say hello (but be cognizant of their limited time) at the beginning of next semester. Let them get to know you. It’s not unusual for a freshman or sophomore to ask a recent professor for a letter to accompany a transfer application.

Not like any of us are Admissions folks with any say, but you look like a well-rounded student if it makes you feel any better. Definitely go to profs’ office hours, as someone else said, even if you’re not struggling with the material. Just to talk about your interest in the subject or whatnot. I would also make sure you have a compelling reason on your app as to why Smith as an institution would better fulfill what you’re looking for, since you’re a transfer student. Good luck!
