Chance an average student for UC's & Cal States

Lol, let's try this again.

I am applying to:

UCSD
UCSB
UC Irvine
Cal Poly Pomona
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo
San Diego State

CA resident, weighted gpa 3.57, ACT 28, SAT II's Eng Lit 570, Math II 610 (retaking both of these), Lots of volunteer work (200+ hours), minor leadership roles (vp of Christian club, Student Leader, Senior leadership), hardships (death of little sister), and have had name published on a local map for work done during Mojave River class at school, and helped local society for Big Horn Sheep in our area through same class. Member of National Honor Society, Principals Honor Roll 2 semesters (so far..).

I know my #'s aren't that great, but I am passionate about studying mechanical engineering and am wondering what kind of chance I have at any of these schools. Thanks guys.

UCSD - reach
UCSB - match
UC Irvine - match
Cal Poly Pomona - match
Cal Poly SLO - reach (for mech engineering, non engineering is match)
SDSU - safety

Probably get into at the very least half the ones you mentioned. ECs dont matter too much for UCs, and dont matter at all for cal state. Get that SAT/ACT up to 30+ or 2000+ and you could probably get in all of them

I have to disagree with ib612 about UCSB - its a reach for you. The average gpa for UCSB has gone up a lot in the past few years - and your test scores are also a little low. i agree about getting your test scores up, that will help a lot.

Thanks! I do think UCSB might be a reach for me and I know UCSD definitely is, but I am working hard to make it happen. I appreciate the feedback!
