Chance an average student?

Hello guys!

What are my chances to the following colleges:

John Hopkins ED (first choice)
University of Pittsburgh (second choice)
Drexel University
NYU
Boston University
Northeastern University (reach?)
Northwestern University (reach?)
University of Chicago (reach?)
University of Michigan (reach?)
University of Pennsylvania (high reach I suppose)

Major: Research doctor/PhD or MD/PhD in business combination.

I am currently a junior in high school. In eigth grade, my father died, and this impacted my life a lot. I used to be a A+ student in middle school and always got 95+ and many 100s in classes that were very difficult like math. After my father died, I did really bad in ninth grade, ending with just over a 80% unweighted GPA (our school doesn't weigh honors classes, only AP).

In tenth grade I improved around 6-7%, ending with somewhere near 86-87% average.

In eleventh grade, my current year, I have a solid A average (weighted) and a low A (A-) unweighted average. Better, of course, but I'm anticipating my average GPA to be around 3.49 or 3.50 unweighted. For this chancing, assume this to be my end of senior year/mid senior year cumulative GPA.

My ECs are pretty decent. I own and operate two incorporated businesses which I handle myself. This includes the accounting, taxes, payments, and support. I have a few workers and programmers. I also work as a tutor and data entry specialist at a franchised center near my house. I have over 300 voluenteer hours at my hospital and am doing my graduation project there as well.

For my courseload, it's all honors/AP. I'm taking whatever college-level classes I can at a local community college since my lower grades in ninth and tenth did not allow me to be elegible to take all AP classes. Additionally, my schedule is pretty full at the moment. By the end of senior year, I will be done Calculus I/II, Microbiology & Immunology, General Biology (college level biology, probably like AP Bio in high school), and General Physics (like AP physics, basic college level Physics). These are the classes I am taking/will take at the college. Let's assume I get an A in these classes, or somewhere like a 3.9 GPA on the college transcript. I already have taken a few of these and gotten As.

I am in the dual enrollment biotechnology program in school, which takes up two class periods each day. I drive there and do extensive lab work each morning, full year class. It was a selective program.

As far as high school classes, it's pretty much the works. Mixture of honors classes and around 4-5 APs total (not that many, but, as said, I am taking them at the local college). I have AP Chemistry, AP Computer Science, AP Stat, AP US Government, AP English 12. Let's say I get a 4-5 on all these exams (I only took the compsci test, but scored a 5 on that - assume I get a 4 or 5 on the rest based on my performance).
Honors classes the whole way, and Honors Chem, Honors Physics.

I can get excellent reccomendations - I know my guidance counselor knows my situation and I have teachers that really like me (like my history teacher, bio teacher, etc.).

So, in short, GPA assumption 3.45 - 3.50 UW, probably like a 3.7-3.9 W (depends if you weigh honors classes).

Class rank - not sure about this - it's top 50% and close to if not in the top 25%.

SAT - I did very well on the SAT. 2240 on one test, superscore 2270 (not a huge difference). Math: 760 CR: 710 W: 770 (on one test).
I'm taking it in May again. ACT I got a 34.

I've seen Hopkins accept 3.4 GPA on this forum before, ED. So can someone chance me for the list of colleges above?

Thank you!

:)

I don’t think you’re an average student! 2240/2270 on the SAT makes me think otherwise  your EC’s are solid, and honestly, I think if you explain the circumstances concerning your father (which I’m very sorry about, by the way) the schools will be sympathetic.

John Hopkins ED - Reach
University of Pittsburgh - ?
Drexel University - Low match
NYU - High Match
Boston University - High Match
Northeastern University - Reach
Northwestern University - Reach
University of Chicago - Reach
University of Michigan - Low Reach, possibly high match.
University of Pennsylvania - High reach

Thank you! I definitely plan to write about my circumstances.

Any other input?

:)

Pittsburgh - awesome test scores so if you get your GPA up, you can get into their honors college pretty easily. I think Pitt is an easy match for you. If you’re OOS, you may qualify for their $10K scholarship or full tuition. For your field of interest, it’s a strong fit.

BU - match
NYU - high match

i got into drexel with a 2.8 gpa out of high school (but a lot of extracirriculars). i dont think its as hard as you think depending on what you’re majoring in (i was for design and merchandising, i could imagine the engineering majors have it tougher). this was in 2008 though, so stats may have changed, but i think drexel is a safe bet at this point.
