So... Chance me please!!!

If I’m reading this correct, B’s in science and math can hurt your chances at getting into an engineering school like Carnegie Mellon. I know someone that got in with A’s in math, science, and comp sci. My dad got into Cornell to do computer engineering with an 800 in SAT math, 4.5 GPA with literally perfect grades, and still got rejected from MIT, but hey, many years have passed since then, and for all I can say, which is limited, you have potential at getting into some top tier engineering schools, but it may be a reach especially places like RPI and CMU who are well known for their engineering schools. Maybe try RIT, I know a kid in my grade who said it was a pretty good engineering school and relatively easy to get into compared to CMU and RPI.

Ah wow your dad had excellent stats! haha. RIT does sound good and I guess I should consider that in my list of colleges.

2250 is not the SAT score of an “average” student. Claiming to be average when you have your stats is almost like making fun of students who don’t have as good of a chance as you do.

Do you honestly believe a single sitting SAT score of 2240 is average by any definition?

Average is usually more 1900s, anyways:
Carnegie Mellon:Low Reach/High Match
UIUC:Match
Georgia:Low Reach
UT Austin:Match
Purdue:Low Match
Michigan:High Match/Low Reach
UCLA:Reach
Rutgers:Low Match
For the record: RIT=Safety

Yeah sorry for the confusion. I meant average by grades. I’m a typical B+ student. And I also have a downward trend in terms of gpa. I just don’t want to apply anywhere unreasonable haha. But thank you so much for the responses.

Actually average is more like a 1500 SAT, 21 ACT, and a 3.0 GPA. Only 12% of all test takers scored above a 1900 composite. Even those scores are above average because they don’t take into account the huge number of high schoolers that drop out, or in the case of the SAT and ACT the enormous number of students that aren’t going to a four year college who, if given the ACT, would likely do worse than average.
