Past summer:
internship at a hedge fund... I learned a lot and was actually active. I worked as an actual analyst and I hope this will look good for Ross.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

If you submit your application before November 1, I like your chances. But do not wait too long to submit your app.

Hey Alexandre, I normally like reading your posts :P I used them when looking for math and economics rankings and stuff like that. It believe it was completely received at the beginning part of October. just wondering, do you like my chances for pre admit to ross as well?

Strong preadmit candidate and in for LSA if you don't wait too long to submit your app.

Ross is unpredictable. You obviously have the GPA and test scores to be considered, but even then, only a fraction of applicants with your credentials are pre-admitted into Ross. It isn't the end of the world if you aren't admitted though. Once you are a student at Michigan, your chances of getting into Ross after your Freshman year will be greatly improved.

60 views and 2 chances. please chance me.

Millhouse, I think the reason people aren't responding is because the answer is pretty clear. If you apply on time, your chances of admission into LSA are good (safe match). As for Ross, it is more difficult to predict because GPA and scores are only part of the equation. Ross also evaluates a students commitment to the Business community. Most successful applicants to Ross have a hook of some sort. Some have started and operated a succeful business, others have done some real work as interns at large companies and finally, others just articulate their academic interests and future professional goals very crisply. In short, there is a good chance you will get into LSA but Ross is unpredictable. Remember that your scores are pretty typical of admitted Ross students, but Ross admits fewer than 20% of pre-admit applicants.

yea sorry about that I am just sometimes impatient :P
I was just wondering what others would predict for Ross

but hey "internship at a hedge fund... I learned a lot and was actually active. I worked as an actual analyst and I hope this will look good for Ross."
maybe a hook lol

I hear you. An internship at a Hedge Fund is certainly very good, but I would not say it is a hook. Like I said, the pre-admit program is only three years old and impossible to predict. As a rule of thumb, any top 2 or 3 program in such a popular major as Business will be a reach for any applicant.

You should have no trouble at all for lsa. Ross is hard to tell - probably a match to slight reach. Your academics are solid, but ec's seem very generic and lacking leadership or anything to set you apart. What exactly did this "investment club" you founded do? Did it actually do anything or was it just resume-building fluff like most similar groups at schools? Your tennis and golf experience is solid but again, nothing exceptional.

As far as the hedge fund is concerned - its definitely not a hook but it would probably be a very good subject for an essay provided you write it well. The main thing with jobs like that is its basically going to be assumed you got the position through connections, so the fact that you worked at the fund isnt going to be impressive in itself. However, what will be impressive is if you can convey how the experience contributed to your desire to study business as well as leadership, etc., you displayed on the job.

Basically, your profile seems pretty typical of the lower half of accepted candidates (at least as far as I know the profiles of preadmits). You seem to have good shot, but lack anything that would guarantee you a spot, and as Alexandre alluded to, there are probably way more applicants with stats "typical of the lower half of accepted candidates" than there are spots. I think whats really going to determine it for you is how you convey the hedge fund experience in your app, as that seems potentially interesting.

thank you for your post. i wrote my essay purely about my experience and how i learned from it/had fun etc. so all i can do is hope i guess
