I'm a white male, I go to a high school in Florida, and I'm graduating as a Junior in high school.

Most of these are estimates....

GPA : 4.29 Weighted (3.9 UW)
Class Rank : 2/400ish
SAT: (Scores not in yet, but I assume I did pretty decent) I would assume 1800 maybe?
ACT: 23 Composite (When I took this I had mononucleosis, was very sick, and it was my first test, so I don't want to look to into this).

AP Courses:
AP World History (Soph.)
AP Statistics (Jr.)
AP Environmental (Jr.)
Dual Enrollment - College Composition 1 & 2 (Jr.)

EC's
Math team all 3 years (Won only award all year Freshman year on Geometry)
Freshman Class Coordinator, Sophomore Class Coordinator, missed school for last 2 months sophomore year (mononucleosis) so could not run for this year...
Volunteens all 3 years (Comm. Service)
Tutoring at Middle school just next door to high school (JR.)

Other Notes:
I missed the last 2 months of school my sophomore year, as I had mono (finally discovered). My grades dropped from All A's throughout the freshman year and semester 1 of sophomore year, to having 4 A's and 3 B's to finish out the year. My GPA unfortunately and Class Rank had to suffer.

Schools to chance me for:
University of Florida
University of Central Florida
University of South Florida
UC Santa Barbara
Cal State Fullerton
New College of Florida
Loyola Marymount University

ouch… your test scores are killing you. Nevertheless, I’d say shoot a bit higher. Do you have a particular reason why you’re graduating early? Another year wouldn’t hurt… especially if you want to get those test scores up.

I’m very low-income (this is part of my reason for graduating early). I put the California schools on there as definite maybe’s in case I get in, and have family near PSU & MSU (might not even apply).

Shoot a bit higher? I’ll check back when my SAT scores come in the 25th. I’m nervous as it is about not getting into UF since I’ll be a junior.

The problem is my freshman year I earned a 4 year FREE tuition to ANY florida (public) school. Would it be worth it to stay an extra year in high school? I certainly don’t think so. If I could afford to go out of state, it would be a different story.

However, UF is arguably the best I can do for in-state. If I can get in a year early, why not? My SAT scores that come in soon will help me with my decision.

If I get denied from UF or I’m not satisfied with going to any of the schools I get in to, my high school will withhold a credit that I need to graduate and just let stay my senior year.

Is my reasoning off? My guidance counselor convinces me to stay another year, but, if I have to stay in Florida there’s no point.

To go out of state is too much money for me. I’m one of those free-lunch kids (heck yes! lol).

I still don’t understand why graduating a year earlier would make a difference in terms of your income situation. You’re not attending a private high school, right?

“I still don’t understand why graduating a year earlier would make a difference in terms of your income situation. You’re not attending a private high school, right?”

It doesn’t differ, however, given the opportunity, there is NO difference between graduating as a junior / senior if I can get into the college of my choice, right?

I don’t like it in my high school, I’d rather not stay. I’m not happy here at all, I’d rather just get on and go to college. There’s nothing for me here… if I can get into UF with 3 years of high school, that 4th “precious” year, which will be **** for me, is just not worth it.

Idk, maybe you have to be in my situation at high school to understand.

I think your Sat/ Act is killing you. You have to do better 2100 or 2000 maybe? Also, I know you really want to graduate a year early but aren’t you sort of rushing things. Whatever you decide to do I wish you good luck and the best, o.k. I’m sure you have good reasons for everything.

I could pretty much have graduated after my junior year and there’s certainly not much keeping me in high school, but I’m staying for next year just because I’m taking quite a few AP’s and they could potentially shave a year off of college for me.

I don’t know, graduating early just doesn’t seem like it’s worth the hassle. Think about it - if you have a whole 'nother year to bring up your GPA, score better on the SATs, and take the AP courses that’ll look impressive to colleges, chances are that you’ll probably get into a better school that will offer you ample financial aid to get you through what might end up being only three years of college.

The problem is just that your stats are decent, but not spectacular? I don’t think colleges see graduating early as impressive in any way, so you’d be at a disadvantage when competing against other applicants who have had one more year than you to boost their resume.

Anyway … just my two cents. Good luck in whatever you end up doing!

I understand everything you all are saying… but…

AP Courses at my high school are not very good. The 23 Composite at my high school (which I don’t think is very accurate at all, was very very sick, almost skipped it), was the highest of any student that took the test (that go to my high school, I don’t know about the other kids who tested that day, I just knew everyone that was in there).

If my SAT scores are good enough then I’m graduating and going to University of Florida.

Financial AID will be all that goes into my pocket. If I go to a 4 year (public university) then I have it all paid for, four years. However, if I go out of state, then I don’t get any of it paid for.

So, honestly, if my test scores are good enough along with my GPA, to get into the University of Florida, why stay in high school when I don’t need to, or want to.

My scholarship is keeping me in Florida, and there’s nowhere higher to shoot in Florida than UF.

I appreciate the comments though. I’ve been thinking about ditching the scholarship and just going out of state, but it’s stupid to do so. I’ll have it all paid for and then some to stay in Florida. My only concern is getting into UF. If My SAT scores come in well, I’m out after 3 years and hopefully in to UF.
