chance an extracurricular activity

I know that colleges seek applicants who are diverse in their extracurricular activities. For example, a male ballet dancer would have a better chance than a female ballet dancer at a college (assuming they're of equal talent). So, does figure skating set me apart from other applicants? Lots of people participate in school sports such as tennis and soccer, but those sports are more common than ice skating.

pppssssssst!

EC’s arent a huge part of an application… Anyways all EC’s are viewed equally to most colleges if they take the same commitment, it just varies from how good a person is. For example a 3rd string noseguard on a football team would not be held as high as the 1st string QB who helped significantly take his team to championships. If a college has an ice skating squad (or w/e you call it), then you would be held above a girl figure skater, but not if they didn’t. You have sooo many posts about EC’s stop obsessing and go study for the SAT"s or something else that will significantly help your application. As long as your EC’s are focused and not blatant application padding you will be fine!

unique EC’s are a plus, but colleges want to see commitment and passion.
