For those of you who don't know what the IB diploma is, it's basically a rigorous program that is equivalent to.. a lot of AP's.

Rank: top 30% of my class

Awards: Leadership award from my summer job at the Embassy.

I travel a lot. I've lived in 3 different countries...

I know my grades are low. but will my EC's make up for it?

I plan to apply ED.

I hate to say it, but you dont have a good chance. Your international, your UW gpa and class rank are below Duke standards, and your ACT is also low. Will you need financial aid? I read somewhere (Ill try to find the link) that Duke only plans to offer about 25 international students with substantial financial aid.

“The university will meet full demonstrated financial need for a limited number of international students applying for first-year admission. Because financial resources for these students are limited, each year Duke expects to enroll 20-25 first-year foreign citizens who receive need-based financial aid.”

https://www.admissions.duke.edu/jump/applying/apply_international.html

But, if you dont need aid, disregard this whole post :)

what r my chances if i DONT need financial aid?

Well, they’re better, but still not great. First off your international, which puts the competition at a whole other level. Then, your GPA, class rank, and ACT are low for Duke. And no, EC’s unfortunately not make up for bad grades. Grades are what open the door, and ECs are what let you walk in it. Cant walk in the door if its not open.

I would say its a really high reach.
