Hi, I would appreciate it if you guys could give me some insight...

First generation
Asian
3.74 GPA
1580 SAT ( I know.. it's low, but I'm retaking it next month )
6 AP classes ( 4 in senior year )
High ranking community service club officer
Summer job

Would I have a good chance? I don't think I can get my SAT above 1700-1800, I'm a really bad SAT taker.

Im not an expert at chancing people but your chances seem bleak/decent

-i mean you waited till your senior year to pack on the AP classes?
-really need to retake the SATs
-any other extracurrics that should be mentioned?
-if that’s all you have in extracurrics then i think it’s a maybe, because you look like every other student applying which makes you seem less significant, call me mean, but you asked for an opinion

It’d be better if you could include more details.
Here’s some things to think about…
How are your AP scores? (I waited till senior yr to pack on 5 AP classes with 6 tests, but the two scores I did have from junior yr were 4&5)
Taken any other honors classes other than APs? (Even though I waited until junior yr to take APs, the first 2 yrs, almost all of my core classes were honors)
Have you considered SAT subject tests? (UW doesn’t require subject but if you can do well it’ll give you a boost in numbers)
Do you do a lot as a club officer? (some don’t, some do. if you do, and can write about it well, it’ll give you a boost)

Oh yea, whether you’re applying to honors or not, aim for the early deadline.

Thx for the replies… well I’m really involve with the club because I’m in charge of several clubs in cities around my area. I don’t have any other extra curic… I’m retaking the SAT in Nov… so what score should I aim for to have somewhat of a good chance… If I will be an AP scholar by the end of senior year, can I list that on my resume? Thanks…

SAT’s
You should aim for about an 1250 Critical Reading+Math on the SAT. UW does not weigh the writing section as much as the CR and Math sections but try to do well on the writing sections too because it is the easiest to improve on. Search on this website “How to get a 12 on the SAT Essay in 10 days” or something like that will easily bump your Writing section score up about 20 points per point you gain on the essay. Also remember that the UW weighs your GPA, APPLICATION ESSAY and RIGOR OF CLASSES more then the SAT, so don’t get down on yourself if you don’t get a good score.

Awards
On the college applications there is a section where you put all your extracurricular activities and rewards, so you can put AP Scholar in there. Though I know that UW does not take AP test scores into determining whether or not you get admitted. But it is a good thing that you took so many AP classes your senior year because the UW wants to see a rigorous senior year schedule as well.

Apply
Apply as soon as possible! The sooner you apply means not only that you might get a decision sooner but it increases your chance of getting admitted. Start filling your application right now! It is already online and the colleges can see if you have started filling out their application. Also you should be writing your essay right now since it is one of the most important parts of the application. Apply before Dec. 1 but if you can apply even earlier do it.
