Thank you.

and i forgot to add my TOEFL scores - 114/120..

Please chance everyone..muchas gracias

I can't help you a lot with your chances overall since I don't know much about international admissions, but I think you should try to get your Critical Reading and Lit scores up, to at least 700. Your ECs look pretty cool, especially the rock band thing. I would highlight that, or whichever of your ECs is the most important to you, in the essay.

Definitely I'd accept you. PLus, if you're a really good essay writer that will help.

@ daxzzler : thanks..I have highlighted on my rock band..my common app.short answer is completely focused on that..as for my sat scores, unfortunately I cannot retake them now as they won't be considered for fall 09 admission..thanks anyways.

@ floatingSaturn : gracias..i hope the adcoms are as gracious as you are..a good essay writer is a pretty relative phrase, don't you think.?

If your essays are decent you can pretty much count yourself out. True you have talent, but unless your essays really show who you are as a person(and the adcom likes what he/she reads) you should probably start looking at some lower colleges.

ummm..I know its highly difficult but am just praying..as for my essays, I really don't know how good they can be called, albeit my friends found them very good and unique..one really cannot say what the adcom will sit up and take notice of..

Let me clarify about these essays...
Vandit- I think you have great chances of getting in. Your stats prove that you can handle the academic rigor of schools like HYP. In a way, this means you're past the "first round" of admissions in which they reject everyone who just wouldn't be able to keep up with the pace of the academic programs. Unfortunately, a huge percentage of kids are qualified at this level and the admissions officers can only accept a small percentage of these kids.
So, in the next round, admissions officers are looking for something that makes you stand out. Either you're extremely passionate about one of your EC's, you have excelled tremendously in one area (like publishing scientific papers or something like that, or being a world-renowned violinist), or you bring a unique background that the college hasn't seen before (for example, I was reading this other board and someone is a gay muslim -which is great, that's something that the college hasn't seen before that will definitely contribute to the diversity of the student body).

So, in your essay, make sure you show the admissions officers why you're unique. Show them what you're passionate about. Right now your resume looks like you've dabbled in many areas - debate, creative writing, music, science clubs. It might help to present yourself with a more focused theme. Show them which EC is important to you and how that fits in with who you are as a person and the type of major you want to pursue in college. Your rock band activity is extremely interesting, so its great that that's your short answer.

Hope that helps!

@ floatingSaturn : Thanks a lot..i personally feel that my essays are pretty unique; I have not dabbled much about my ECs and achievements, rather I have portrayed the person behind the resume; as in my beliefs, values and outlook toward various stuff..as for my short answer, I'd like to pm it to you if you could please critique it..

sure, no problem. Sounds like you already know what you're doing, though. You are already following my advice! I think you're just worried and nervous about the whole admissions process, which is perfectly fine. It's nice to have outside reassurance.

all the application deadlines were 1st January so I have already sent in my apps a long time back. there is actually nothing I can do now about my essays, scores or resume..however, as a writer, it always feels good to have someone critique your essay.. by the way, where are you from.? are you an applicant too for fall '09?

am posting my common app.short answer here..you can learn about my band and perhaps critique me too..

In the space provided below, please elaborate on one of your activities (extracurricular, personal activities, or work experience)(150 words or fewer).

"Dream On Dream On Dream On
Dream until your dreams come true."
Every time, I play this song by Aerosmith with my band, NEMESIS, at our live performances, I fall in love all over again with my guitar. The immensely inspiring lyrics and beautifully composed music pervade into my soul arousing in me, a deep sense of ecstasy. The enchanting atmosphere when we play this song in front of a really passionate crowd and the guitar solos and riffs superbly composed by Joe Perry (although I do not play the solo note-to-note, preferring to improvise) make me feel elated. The obstacles we had to face as a band, from being recognized as the youngest professional multilingual rock band, to the time when we gave our blood, toil, tears and sweat to win the Times Youth Rock Festival, define us as we play 'Dream on' at our concerts. After all, Steven Tyler was accurate when he wrote, "You gotta lose to know how to win."

please critique it..i know that my stats aren't too impressive and I am praying that my essays carry me through..

yup. Im class of 09. Great short answer! I love the dream on theme.

At Yale, you say YHP, not HYP.

bump bump bump

vandit: congratulations on your achievements to date. At this point, I would strongly suggest you try to stay away from CC as much as possible. The constant striving for reassurance from strangers is -- ultimately not valuable. Concentrate on your current studies and how to enjoy your last months as a High School student. What has been done has been done and the outcome has not been in your control for several months.

April 1 will be here very quickly. Best of luck to your on your attempt to let the time past quickly

@ T26E4 : Thanks a lot..i know what you are saying is absolutely correct..

lol @ goerge.10!

I have a comment, then a question -

I think your chances are good. You definitely have plenty of awards/honors, but I think your extra curriculars stand out - as said earlier, especially the rock band ("Dream On" is a classic - I love it; do you listen to Santana? He has a great song with Steven Tyler on his new album: "All that I am") And, the creative writing one too, for that matter. Plus, the schools you applied to are all fantastic, so you'll be happy wherever you go.

Okay, my question (it may be dumb but I haven't been on this website long enough to know) - What is "bump bump" ... ? Why do people write that on these threads? Thanks :)

Good luck!

Bump bump is a kind of a stereotypical thing that people write to make a latest post on the thread so that it stays alive on the first page of its directory. That's it. No big deal. So, next time your thread doesn't have responses and you want it to stay alive just "bump bump" !! :)
