Chance an Indian for HYPD + Cornell + MIT? (Will chance back)

kcj2196 - Thank you
Yes I believe my ECs will play a big part of my application, perhaps the biggest?
Sorry but how do I find out the regional rep? :frowning:
Will interest play a role in admissions as well?
HAHA yes indeed, holistic admissions is one of the best things about the US Education System! :)

Anyone else please?

your in for a lot of these schools, especially ucā€™s and being indian is a plus
chance back

^I am not applying to any UCs :stuck_out_tongue:
And I thought being Indian was a disadvantage!

Anyone else ?

Your ECā€™s and sports are amazing but the only things that are driving you down are your SAT and your senior average. Nothing you can do about the latter, so all you can do is raise your SAT (as Iā€™m sure others already told you) by a hundred or two and youā€™ll be incredibly competitive for the Ivies and such. Good luck!

Tbh I really think you need to include your background somewhere in your essays. indiaā€™s economic crisis and how it affected individual households might not seem like a really interesting topic but I think itā€™ll be a really good way to add your voice into it and your own story - theyll probably reconsider their initial judgement of your grades when they know that you took time to support your family and nevertheless was able to motivate yourself.
Also is there a specific reason youre applying to HYPD? those schools are incredibly hard to get in even with amazing stats. there are other equally amazing schools that dont ask for such crazy requirements - dont apply just for the name and prestige is what im saying. good luck anyways

Thankyou !
Yes Ill do my best on the SATs if i give them again and will try to convey myself through my essays :)

corrinder94 - I hope they do!
Umm yes HYPD is among the few schools that guarantee 100 percent aid. And I want to major in Economics (or Engg from Cornell ā€“ If I get aid). I have heard that they have good economics courses. And IF i get into one of them Iā€™ll be able to learn much more from my classmates and interactions than I could possibly ever dream of. To put it in short - Aid, Course and Experience. :)

That said, I am sure that no matter where I go, I will try my best to enjoy and discover myself
Isnt that what college is about?
And I cant really apply to any other colleges because aid will be a huge barrier.
So, only Ivies and MIT for now! :)

Anyone else? :)

I know that a bunch of schools do have ā€œregional officers.ā€ When I was at UChicago the admissions people simply redirected me to her and Iā€™m sure that if you called the admissions office of most schools they could give you contact info.

kcj2196 - Thankyou  I will contact the admissions office soon. Though i managed to get details of the Regional Officer at UPenn :D

Anyone else?

Why donā€™t you apply to Penn or Duke? They have better financial aid than Cornell in my experience.

goldenboy8784 - Arenā€™t they need aware?
I already have low chances and applying at need aware colleges will only reduce whatever probability i have of getting in. Haha. But yes, since i have been able to get fee waivers for a couple of schools.
I have thought of adding Columbia and UPenn. Dunno about Duke, does it provide substantial aid? :O

Thanks so much, you guys are really helping me with so much and am sure if it werenā€™t for you people iā€™d be absolutely lost. Thanks so much :)

bump? 10charrrr

Very strong ecā€™s but remember as an international admissions will be EXTREMELY competitive. Iā€™ve heard of international IMO gold medalists with 2300+ SATā€™S that got rejected from MIT due to the sheer level of competition

Iā€™d think that you have a better chance at Harvard than Cornell, actually, since I donā€™t think Harvard looks at finaid need for internationalsā€¦ or at least, it doesnā€™t factor as heavily

hypscm - Yes I know, its just that much tougher for internationals! Thankyou :)

bluenotebook2 - Harvard is insanely selective though. And getting into any of these with full aid would be just awesome on so many levels. Thanks btw :D

Bumpinā€™ it up. :)

Bump! 10charrr

wait a secondā€¦I assume you were representing India for IMO? Last time someone from India who got 95+ percentile was in 2002. Unless you rememberd your stats a bit wrongā€¦

lovenerds - No, you are confusing two different olympiads. I participated in the IMO that is organised by SOF. And you, i believe, are talking about the IMOā€™s in which students represent their countries, right? The two are entirely different. Unfortunately my school doesnt let students give the IMO that youā€™re talking about.
Hope that clears it out.
