I will chance back! Just link me :)

I think your chances are great! A ton of ec’s, and your course load is great. Just gotta remember that with these top schools it’s really hit and miss, and straight up weird. Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1334026-one-more-chance-ucla-berkeley.html</a></p>

You’ve got some stellar chances. Though the BS/MD programs (I am also interested in those :)) are EXTREMELY competitive and honestly, more so than ivies. Definitely apply to some safeties because Duke is most certainly not a safety.
Chance back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1282445-chance-mit-other-schools.html</a></p>

Fellow indian here :stuck_out_tongue: (actually headed to PSU/Jeff but turned down the bottom two on your list and some others). You didn’t really indicate, but I guess you’re a junior. Well, academically you’re ok. It certainly is worth it to re-take SAT if you think you can actually target 2350+. To be in the HYPM league so to say, you’ll want the at least 2300+ and top 1% class rank. Nonetheless for a program like Penn State/Jeff or Dartmouth and Duke, academically you’re def. in the playing field and a 2350+ would only advance your position. Awards look alright. Medical experience, (imaginary check mark) though I would suggest maybe continuing to volunteer over summer and after to rack up more hospital volunteering hours if you can. Though, I think research could do the trick if that’s your thing. You look to be in good standing to get an interview for PSU/Jeff. For ivies+ though, something that I feel you’re missing a little is solid leadership positions. Try to consolidate something like a Presidencies and your chances would be greatly improved. For BS/MDs, it doesn’t matter a whole lot though. Trust me, it’s harder to make it into an ivy than a bs/md, but many who make it to ivies choose bs/md. Also, if you could publish your research and/or submit to something like Siemens, that’s something to look into. I’ve been to the whole bs/md process and will be at PSU through the summer and fall so if you ever have any questions, you know what to do.

HYP are unlikely and the other ivies significant reaches. Your stats are average at those schools and ECs weak.

How prestigious are those chess tournaments you won?

Thanks for the replies everyone!

Waverly, thank you very much for your response. This summer, I think I have secured a research position, so by application time I’ll have over 600 hours spent on research (combined with previous year). I will def. try to enter Intel/Siemens!

The chess tournaments are fairly prestigious, and I would say that I am top 5-10 for high school students in my entire state. I will try to play at Nationals this fall.

dblazer, check your inbox :)

Anymore thoughts would be appreciated!

Bump!

10char

You seem to have great chances at them all, but as with all Ivy/top schools, you have a hit and miss chance. PSU and Duke seem to be your best shots.

Nothing stands out, but I would say you still have a good chance!

Wow, you have such a great academic and ec record! I definitely think you have a shot at all of the schools in your list. Why aren’t you applying to JHU, considering you’ve done two internships/programs with them?

Also, you should consider some lower-ranked schools too, like Rochester, Brandeis, etc.

chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1337318-please-chance-me-cornell-wustl-umich-hamilton-cmc-georgetown-wfu.html#post14353979</a></p>

@Princeton, just did! :)

@Blckmgc & FutureWeatherman, thanks! Getting into Duke would be pretty amazing too…

So I have some good news!

Here are my plans for this summer:

~600 hours conducting research at a neuro-ophthalmology internship

Going to be attending an all-expenses paid residential neuroscience camp

Paid job as a chess tutor

Few other non-major things

Any more chances please?

You have good chances. You have a very strong base. Your essays will mean a lot, the recs will mean a lot. Ivy leagues love community service and your cultural involvement- knowing all those languages! I would place money on you getting into at least one. If you apply early action or decision to a specific one you’ll probably get in there.

Nothing besides chess and the french award particularly stands out, but you have a good shot at all, except MIT and Harvard. What will you major in?

Chance me?

-Key Club (Volunteer Organization–board member)
-National Math/Science/French Honors societies
-Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY)
-Know 5 different languages!

–NEUROSCIENCE:

 1. 600 hours in a neuro-ophthalmology internship
 2. 130 hours in a neuro-radiology lab
 3. All-expense paid neuroscience residential summer camp
 4. Neuroscience competitions
 5. Shadowing a neurosurgeon (35 hours)

• Volunteer/Community service:

@Cedardog,
Haha thanks! I’m still looking into whether or not I should apply early anywhere since I’m hoping to add a few awards in December…

@businesslover,
I’m probably going to major in the Cognitive Sciences. And sure, I’ll chance back!

Stats are good. Your SAT is probably fine so only retake if you know 100% that you will get 2300+.

Your ECs are fairly good. Definitely passable. That being said they are not all that great. Knowing 5 languages and shadowing some doctors are not extracurriculars unless you self taught the languages and you ended up actually doing stuff while shadowing ie: assisting in surgery. Volunteering is Ok, but it would be better to talk about the things you are actually passionate about which appears to be neuro-science and chess.

Also as far as awards go, your french contest award is mediocre at best. Your Chess trophies are great but it’s going to be nearly impossible to fit them all on an application. Your ranking is good and should definitely go on your app (esp. if your from a big state like CA, NY, or MA where there are a lot of really smart people) If you get research published after this summer, that would definitely be something to put under major award category.

If I were you, I would not do anything this summer except research and focus really intensely on the research (assuming that’s your #1 passion). If you live, breath and eat research this entire summer then it really has the potential at turning into something great ie: getting published.

I would say you have an OK shot at your top schools. That being said, I would look for other schools to have as match schools and safeties (Suggested match: Cornell, NYU, Berkeley, U Mich safeties: UC Davis, UC SD, UMD).

Good luck!
Chance me back?
