I know its highly difficult for me to get in, but I'd really appreciate any honest comments. Should i even hope to get in.?

Thank you.

Dude, highest in English in India and only a 660 CR score?!? I'm stupefied. :)

ya, I know its a bit contradictory. i actually gave my sat-i in Dec.and subject tests in Jan., could not give them earlier and obviously cannot give in March for consideration. so no retake for either. and ya,i honestly over-estimated my CR ability so did not prepare much for it and i am repenting it now..

anyways please chance..

Well, your college list suggests that you are very much aware of how good your stats are. However, I feel your sat score is a bit low for the the schools you have listed. Ideally a 2250+ is considered very good in these institutions and there are lot of people from your country who have more than 2300 in their SATs. Also, why did you take both Mat 1 and Mat 2? You could have taken MAT 2 and another subject test from a different area of study. But that's just my opinion.

Are you applying for Aid. If so, then Cornell, Duke, U Chicago, Columbia, and Brown will become lot more competitive for you.

Bottom line: you are a very strong candidate with an amazing set of extra-curricular activities, but you can take nothing for certain when applying to such schools as those you have listed. Keep you fingers crossed, and you will find out in one-and-a-half months for sure.

By the way, don't you have any safety schools?

"Are you applying for Aid. If so, then Cornell, Duke, U Chicago, Columbia, and Brown will become lot more competitive for you."
Second that.
And also reiterate that You are an Indian. So a lot of others with similar stats. Very tough.
"don't you have any safety schools"???

^^^^^^^ thanks, BB and Karpov.

Firstly,I know how competitive it is and that my stats are not too impressive, so my first question is whether I should have any hope or not, keeping in mind that I am an Indian and whatever else goes with it.

Secondly,I decided that I want to apply pretty late, almost mid-October, so I could give my reasoning and subject(sats) only once each. no way to improve upon that.

Thirdly, since I made up my mind that late, I did not have much time to brood over my college list again keeping in my mind that grade 12 is quite strenuous here and academic session gets over in January. Therefore, I could not apply to any safety school. My only hope lies with the schools listed above.

Thanks anyways..and good luck to you too

That's risky vandit_daboss. You should have kept the safeties no matter what! I suppose you just pray that your app is accepted in any of the above universities. All the best!

You have as good a shot as most people. with some luck, you'll get in. But explore other options- ones still left- just in case. And Good Luck!

@ karpov : thanks a lot..i just hope that i get through to at least one.

@ adnan : ya, i know i should have applied to at least one safety but it ain't possible especially since most safeties are not known to give aid to international.students..do you think I stand a chance at any of the places listed above??

@Karpov
YOu forgot to mention upenn. It is also not need-blind for internationals and if he requires AID,it would be also very difficult

I would say you have a reasonable chance of getting in. It is so very hard to predict what kind of student these top top colleges find appealing(I mean, how many more perfect 2400 SAT scorers, perfect 4.0 gpa's could one institution want?) Top colleges all insist on striking a balance in their class so you have to make yourself appealing to these colleges. Show something that is not reflected by your test scores/grades/even EC's. Give them a sense of the person behind these stats and numbers.
Stand out through your essays and I reckon you have a cracking shot at getting in!!

hey m an indian too..is it necessary to take TOEFL?? isnt sat 1 and 2 enough??and wow nice statistics..which year did u finish ur 10th grade??

@ ninja : thanks..my essays in fact are quite personalized speaking more about me as a person and my experiences than my stats or achievements.

@ msb : hey, nice to see a fellow Indian..do chance me for the schools..TOEFL ain't necessary but i feel a good score can only add to your application, if nothing else, albeit sat-1 and sat-2 are sufficient enough( 650+ CR score required for waiving TOEFL as far as i remember). gave my tenth boards in 2007. all the best..

650+ CR score required for waiving TOEFL as far as i remember

that only applies to some univs...to be on the safer side its better to give the toefl

Show something that is not reflected by your test scores/grades/even EC's

thats what will get you in
i mean i know 3 people in delhi alone who're applying with a 2300+ SAT I sooo..yeah
HYP is a crapshoot for anyone anyways

though u do have an excellent chance at cornell, u chicago, penn and northw

imo your high toefl scores make up for your par (at least when these colleges are concerned) critical reading scores. Your academics and rank are brilliant and ECs are fantastic. I think you have a great chance in Northwestern and a very good chance at the rest except HYP. HYP are incredibly tough to get into but you also have a fair chance in them. But like talha said you should have a couple of back-ups in case things don't turn out alright. Try to get a safety or two but I believe that you will definitely get into at least one of these universities.

If you're looking for back-ups with financial aid I suggest you try some liberal arts colleges since they are very good with financial aid.

@ greenboy : thanks a lot..I am praying that I get into at least one of the ten..31st March seems so far away..can the rock band act as a hook?? my common app.short answer is completely focused on that

also, I wanted to apply to 3-4 liberal arts colleges which are fantastic with international.financial aid but the deadlines were 15th Jan..it ain't possible now, right.?

The fact that your rock band has performed several times nation wide makes it a very impressive EC. It will definitely strengthen your application a great deal. I suppose it could be called a hook.
Unfortunately the deadlines of all top-tier U.S. colleges have passed. But then again you have your main choices and now only need a back-up. If you can't find a U.S. university try to find a back-up elsewhere. Canadian universities are relatively cheap compared to U.S. ones and with stats like yours you will probably be able to get into any university over there. Their deadlines are late so you might be able to apply into some good Canadian universities yet.
And don't worry if financial aid does become an issue at college, you can always transfer. Good luck!

You can get merit aid with those stats! :) I agree with greenboy, you can try your luck in other universities! US should be the only option...

How did you calculate your GPA?
