recs: really gud.

so wht do u think????
i really wantd 2 get into atleast one of these colleges....
do u think il get into atleast cornell???

1) Good Science Math stuff (NCO and NTSE)
2) 10th Percentage is AWESOME !!
3) Low SAT.
4) Other ECs are good.
5) What is your intended major ? CS, I presume.

This is really not an extracurricular but you can mention this on the application anyway. Your JEE rank would be declared 2 months after the colleges make a decision on your application, so the rank is a moot point.

A question. Would you mention this in your application?

Ah, I really can’t infer anything from your double-meaning statements…
What situation-with-females ?

Improve SATs, write really good essays, do not write like the way you just did and you’re pretty much set for your colleges. Try to separate yourself from other Indian applicants who are applying to these super selective schools. If you browse the Indian forum’s first page itself you’ll see that there are 2~3 new applicant threads with similar, if not better, stats than yours.

:)

EDIT: If you really want to show them the JEE rank, then take a gap year. A good rank would really help.
** I posted this assuming that you’re a 16er. If not, then please ignore my post entirely ** :)

Your chances are low! I wouldn’t be surprised to see you getting denied by those ultra-competitive colleges.

In case, you are a 16er (i.e. you will be applying in Dec '11), you should focus on International Science Olympiads. Just get a medal at one of those (PCM) Olympiads, write great essays (tell your story & perspective: that female one is impressive) and your chances will increase dramatically.

Google Science Fair 2011 is knocking the door. Try your hand in it.

about the situation of females : my home town is very very conservative. if u r a gal u r constantly scrutinizd n critisisd. (its a lot worse than it sounds). so i wanna do something to change the situation.

“A question. Would you mention this in your application?”

i din get u…? i guess u mean its too trivial 2 mention in the application. i developed a program 2 generate customised time tables using my own algorithm. i had 2 teachers review my work n they were pretty impressed…

i kno my sat scores r low. tats mostly coz 95% of my time is devoted for iit jee. i cant giv anothr try at sat. so lets c wht happens.

either way, thank u all for ur honest comments… :)

No, I was not saying that it’s too trivial. Just wanted to know what exactly you wrote about this. (Got it when you mentioned " developed a program 2 generate customised time tables using my own algorithm ")

^ i thought i had a pretty good chance for cornell. i know the rest of 'em r a long shot…bt since cornell doesnt require ur writing scores, wouldnt my chances b gud ???

Don’t worry about your SAT scores, they are good. I have seen people getting in with scores much less than that (say 1800!).

I thought your chances are low, but if you have written about that girls-of-my-town-&-I-want-to-change-the-world-by-being-an-example story and your essays are convincing (and persuading), I bet you have great chances!

You’ve got really good chances. I guess you’ll get into Cornell, at the very least.

As for the other stuff, send in all your research material and programs and stuff. Your chances will improve.

Lastly, don’t get demoralized by what people say on this forum. I mean, even if you don’t get into MIT, you always have IIT and if you’re taking a gap year then atleast MIT will most probably admit you on the basis of that rank.

@aniruddhc : thanks…
everyone i kno except me wants me 2 study in iit…u kno stupid obsession wid indian colleges…bt since iit requires very very high ranks in order 2 major in CS i dun think i stand a chance… i luv american colleges on that aspect…:)

hey Your scores in school are VERY good! And by now as you would have got your college decisions which college will you be heading? Very curious to know that :)

^ yes because first she is not considered an international student (unless you are planning on applying to a private which doesn’t really care for all of this). The plus side can be really bright for someone who’s parents live in a state where the public uni is highly recognized by the nation (ie Berkely, chapel, LA, Umich, virginia). Secondly, this person will be qualified to receive federal grants/loans (FAFSA). Additionally, this individual will have the advantage of having studied abroad and learning things quite differently than most american citizens. This can be reflected in the essays that are written when applying for admissions.
Basically, you are better off financially when your uni falls within your homeland.
