Chance an international at Stanford.

Hi there, so I am new at this whole "chancing" thing so bear with me. I know my chances of getting in to this school are extremely low, but I was just wondering if you could give me advice on whether or not it's worth it to apply at all. Alright, so

I am a Canadian citizen.

I go to a public school, grades 10-12, of 2000. My grad class is around 800 students. I am in around the top 5 percent.

I am caucasian, however I do have a very foreign European sounding name. (I have no idea if that makes a difference or not.)

I am female.

Bilingual: French/English. I am in a challenging Canadian program called French Immersion.

Major is undecided although most likely something in Science.

SAT I: 2050 (680 CR, 680 W, 690 M)

I will be taking SAT II's this month in French, Math II and Chemistry.

I am taking all AP's offered at my school while also being in the French Immersion program. My school is only a linear system, which means you can take up to 8 (more if they are outside of school) courses all year long, no semesters, and you take all final exams at the end of the year. I am taking:

Biology AP, Chemistry AP, Calculus AP, History, French (immersion), English AP, Physics AP, Math 12.

I have an unweighted GPA of 4.0 and I do not know what my weighted GPA is, but in these courses I average 94 %.

*ECs and work experience: I volunteer tutor at and outside of my school and have many letters of rec from that. I have been in dance (ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical) for 14 years, where I have competed. Piano for 10 years. Volunteer lifeguard. I am part of a group where we raise money at our school to build a girl's school in Sri Lanka. I am also part of a buddy program where we welcome new immigrants to our city. I am the secretary of our grad council. I am in and started the physics club at our school. I have also worked as a cashier at a local grocery store for four months.

One disadvantage is that our school does not really have a counselor and no one is very familiar with letters of rec or anything of the sort. Although I do have a few really nice teachers who I'm sure will help me out.

Okay I think that's it! Thank you guys so much!

Oh also, I've only taking the SAT once.

it depends on your weighted GPA, and of course you need at least a 1400 on the SAT. other than that, i don't think you should worry too much.

I will say, if you get around 3*800 on your SATs II, AND DECIDE about major, then you'll have a CHANCE, but if not... ;(

Retake the SATs for any real chance.

Well i'm taking the SAT II's this month, so I guess I'm too late to retake the SAT I. :(

... bump.

Also not applying for financial aid.

Well, your SAT scores aren't really good for Stanford and you don't really have anything that would make up for that (ECs and whatnot). I think your chances are slim, but who knows? Are you just applying to Stanford cause you want the prestige, or you genuinely want to go there?

Not for prestige, I genuinely do want to go there. They seem to really offer a different atmosphere than other universities that would perhaps be considered their equals. I also am very interested in their encouragement towards taking interdisciplinary courses.

You're gonna need higher standardized test scores to be competitive. The international applicant pool to HYPS is ridiculously good and competitive.
