Financial Income - Around 100-120k. Would not mind some financial aid, but will applying reduce my chances?
I've Heard Dartmouth is Need Blind, so that is another plus point for Dartmouth.
Hooks - None

So That is all , let me know what you guys think.

Bump!

Definitely good chance for Dartmouth … Especially for ED

Columbia - Reach

Cornell/Brown/Upenn - Low Reach (Ivies are generally reaches for everyone)

Duke - match-low reach

NYU/UCLA/Berkeley/Umich - Match

^ It’s funny because Duke is significantly more selective than Cornell and Penn CAS. Maybe you should actually google stuff before you advice someone else!

chance me while I chance you- http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1669277-chances-2nd-tier-schools.html#latest

Dartmouth and Columbia are light years apart. Do not go for a school just because of prestige. If you really like the closeness of Dartmouth then you will hate NYU/Columbia for sure maybe even Penn.
Why are you going Stern for NYU but not Wharton for Penn. Also a lot of your classes and EC’s show a interest in Business. Great EC’s though they will help a lot.

Dartmouth ED- low reach
Penn (IMO, Will find it suspicious that you are not applying to Wharton)/Columbia- reach
Duke/Brown/Cornell- low reach (should get in 1-2)
Rest are matches but expensive and offer minimal FA

Yeah I definitely prefer the more traditional college experience of Dartmouth rather than the urban campuses of NYU/ Columbia, thus I hope to get in Dartmouth ED.
I believe Wharton will be a really high-reach cause the applicants have really focused EC’s and stats. Also an international without hooks has a negligible chance of getting in.

Do not apply to Penn because they will reject since you are applying to CAS w/ business structure resume, apply Penn Wharton.
Take out NYU and Columbia and put in Notre Dame Mendoza, it has a college type feel to it also.
Brown is not that strong in economics, go for Northwestern, which has a great economics certificate program that is no less than Finance from a top tier biz school. I do not know what Northwestern’s campus looks like, check that out online.

Yeah will surely do some research on Northwestern … Seen quite a lot of praise for its Econ department on some threads.

There are only 6 colleges in America who are need blind and meet full need for international students. They are Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Dartmouth, MIT, and Amherst College. With your family income, those are really the only schools you should be paying attention to.

You would have to be full pay at UCLA, Mich, or Berkeley, meaning, you would pay about $60,000 per year (including int’l transportation).

For NYU, you would probably be full pay as well, so about $65,000 a year to go there.

In my opinion, Dartmouth ED is your best bet. You may not get in because of the steep competition between int’l applicants, but it seems like the best option for you.

From an admissions standpoint, your GPA is extremely low for these schools-- especially as an international student. Your GPA would not be 3.8. With what you have now, which is an 89 average, your GPA would be a 3.4 on most scales. An American student would most likely get rejected with that, so the for an international student, your chances will be even lower. In addition, there is no way you can bring your GPA up to a 3.8 in one semester, so get that thought out of your head. Keep in mind that Darthmouth won’t admit a student ED if they wouldn’t admit them through RD.

So these are all going to be very high reaches for you.

@AnnieBeats‌ The Indian especially the ISC system is really strict in marking and even though I’m in one of the top 20 schools of the country 80% of the kids get <75 averages in 11 and one of my friends was accepted at Cornell Ed last year with an 85 average with SAT 2320 , he said they emphasise more on your sat1/2 scores ,EC’s ,essays, recs rather than his GPA in school. Even the valedictorian in our school has like a 90 average till now.
Also converting Indian marks in GPA would be very difficult as the systems are really different, and when I apply to non ed schools I would have a better average as I certainly will score 95 or more ( Grade 10-11 marks are always lower for some reason).

If the Indian system is so hard and the valedictorian has a 90 average, why do you expect that you will magically be able to bring your senior year average up to 95? Also, Cornell is the least selective ivy. I’m not sure that your friends score is compelling seeing that it was ED as well.

@AnnieBeats‌ That’s her averages till Grade 11. Till 11 the exams are checked by teachers of the school only and marking is very strict. In grade 12 the exams are checked by the govt. approved board of faculty and thus marking is more lenient, the valedictorian for grade 12 last year scored 98.2% .This is because Indian colleges review applicants by only their Grade 12 marks and not on their EC’s and grade 10-11 marks.

@FenixWarrior97 Grade inflation in 12th grade doesn’t seem like something that will help with Ivy admissions…

Good chances for Dartmouth but still iffy. Same goes for the others. I would say low reach to mid reach.
@hidall1 I don’t believe duke is much more selective than upenn and Cornell. They are of similar caliber.

Your stats and EC’s are very good, but getting into an Ivy League school is a crapshoot for everyone. If you apply to Dartmouth ED, the only other school you can apply to early action is UMich. UCLA, Berkeley, UMich, and NYU will give you little to no FA, so you’re looking at paying $60K+ a year.

@tooty44‌ I shouldn’t have used the word “much”. Duke is more selective than Penn CAS and Cornell though. That’s a fact. You don’t have to ‘believe’ facts. They are true regardless of whether you choose to believe them :)
