Chance an international junior w. weird stats

<p>I know. I did this last yr. But I thought I'd do it again now that I have updates and that I'm a junior.</p>

<p>My Stats
Gender: Female
Location: Shenzhen, China
GPA: (At the last count) 4.0
SAT: (pratice test 1)2170 M 800 CR 750 W 620 (pratice test 2) 2150 M 800 CR 610 W 740
(I know these two scores are weird put together, but...)
SAT2: I'm taking the maths2, physics and bio.
TOEFL: 113</p>

<p>ECs:
Outside of school
-4 books written and published (this is my biggest ec that started when I was 7). One of them co-authored with the British economist John Howkins. But the four books are all in Chinese. They sold pretty good though.
-2 books translated---British YA author Annie Dalton's <fogging over=""> from English to Chinese. and my book with John Howkins which I worked on with him in English then translated into Chinese.
-Sunshine Library, a charity project I founded when I was 9, basically it's helping this poor school build a library. I got some donations and publication.I spoke about the project on IBBY (a world conference for children's books)
-English Stories, a local, free programme I ran in my community that teaches kids English through reading. I have my own curriculum and unique teaching ways and things so it's not about "reciting words" at all.
-Internship at this software systems design company. </fogging></p>

<p>Awards
-Campus Translater---Winner (this is the one I got from HarperCollins for translating their Fogging Over)
-China's Top Ten Young Writers (from the China Young Writers' Association, I was both votes by the public and chosen by the judges)
-08'China Creative Prize---Outstanding Individual (It's to do with my book co-authored with John Howkins, this is the biggest prize in the Creative Industries in China)</p>

<p>Currently A Member Of
-China Young Writers' Association
-Shanghai Creative Industries Association</p>

<p>Inside school
-College Abroad Club. Founder and president. We hold some speeches and 1 to 1 coaching programmes.
-English Drama Club. We won Second Prize city-wide.
-Debate. Was Best Debater schoolwide.
-Biology Peer Tutoring Program. Founder.
-Computer Club(it was only open for a term but was cool)
-Writing and directing a short musical for my class English play. We won second prize school-wide.</p>

<p>Research Project
-Project on school GPA systems won first place tied in school. This, along with a project my internship led to, is going to be submitted to the district finals. </p>

<p>Essays: will probably be okay,</p>

<p>Recoms: I'm guessing pretty good.</p>

<p>Other things about me:
-I attended Yr 5,6 and 7 in New Zealand
-I have written lots of both English and Chinese songs which my music teacher thinks are fantastic. (But I can't really do anything about them because just GOING to school takes about all of my time. from 7:30am to 10:00pm, from Mon to Sat...)
-I'll need full FA if possible.
-My intended major is Neuroscience/Cognitive Science</p>

<p>Have I got any chance at...
Yale (I'm planning on SCEA),
MIT (My top choice...don't ask)
Harvard
Dartmouth
Brown
Mt Holyoke
Oberlin
St Olaf</p>

<p>What I'd like to hear advice on:
1. My chances...what else I should do in this year to increase them.
2. What other colleges might be good for me
3. what ecs I should fill in on my app cause I don't think there's enough space for all of it, or should I send a seperate resume? Is that supposed to be too much infor?
4. what does writing and translating books fall under? ecs...or work experience? I've heard that if you get paid, it's considered work experience, is that true?</p>

<p>bump</p>

<p>plz leave some advice, I’ll chance back, though I’m not sure how accurate I’ll be…</p>

<p>The writing extracurriculars are pretty impressive. Bring up the SAT and you have a legitimate shot.</p>

<p>Your superscore is: 2290
Don’t ask me who will take it or not, It a new concept to me too.</p>

<p>Barnacles, you’ll get accepted to many of them.</p>

<p>ugh, I wanna do Spanish like you’re doing English but the stupid councilor at my school won’t let me… grr…</p>

<p>I really don’t know. I’m sure you know that the schools you listed are very competitive, and that it is even more difficult for international students to be accepted than it is for students in the U.S. However, your ECs are outstanding. They are what will get you in. Make sure you do well on the actual SAT and keep up your grades. Get some stellar letters of recommendation and I really do think you have a great shot. </p>

<p>One of the top ten young writers in China! Wow! That’s pretty amazing. </p>

<p>Best of luck!</p>

<p>bump</p>

<p>Update: my project won first place in the district finals…</p>

<p>Being from Chna and looking for a lot of aid makes things tough. The top schools will have two spaces maybe from students from China and will choose from the country’s top students. Top American colleges are seeing huge increases in the numbers applying every year.</p>

<p>If your published work is as impressive as you ake it sound, you certainly would be seen as a strong candidate.</p>

<p>One question–if you have well selling books aren’t you making money from them, and therefore, why the need for so much aid?</p>

<p>If i sounded obnoxious, I apologize…
I clearify, I am by no means writing bestsellers, and I am making money, but nowhere near enough to cover the money needed for college. Also, in China, writing, even bestsellers, does not make as much money as it does in the western world.<br>
Any further advice? :-)</p>

<p>Yale - reach
MIT - reach
Dartmouth - match
Brown - reach</p>

<p>[Bombing</a> senior year!?!? Will chance back, quickly! - College Confidential](<a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?goto=newpost&%20t=841375]Bombing”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?goto=newpost&%20t=841375)</p>

<p>It is really, really, tough for international students at the schools you listed, especially from China. </p>

<p>That being said, you look like you’re in really good shape so far. Knock the real SATs and SAT IIs out of the park and you should be in good shape.</p>

<p>Chance me?

<p>Just realised it should have been “clarify”…</p>
