We need more information about your extracurricular activities, country (yes, the competition between say, Chinese applicants, and between say, Romanian applicants is different), SAT subject test scores.

I am a singaporean. Soccer-9th 11th and 12th grades-varsity team player. Mun-throughout high school - delegate. Did summer courses last year and this year in a research lab. Hope this will help

You can pay full freight, right? Try the public schools which are perfectly willing to accept rich internationals, lol. Such as Maryland CP? Your math is low for Eng though.

thanks. i am going to write SAT again this october. I am working hard to increase the scores. lets see. thanks anyway.

Is Berkeley perfectly willing to accept rich internationals :D

Not really. Berkeley can afford to pick and choose.

hi friends,

I am not rich. My father works for UN and they pay some parts of the tuition. We are taking a loan for the rest. I intend to pay when I graduate.

I am working extremely hard and I hope to major in chemical engineering. Please tell me if University of Rochester is good for this major. Will I have a chance to get in.

Also, I am planning to apply ED. Can anyone tell me which would be suitable?

Carnegie, Northwestern, Johns Hopkins or University of Rochester as reach schools?

Again, I value your advice

All of the above (I dunno abt Rochester) are reaches for you. See IIT, Purdue, VirginiaTech, PennState ...

carnieage is good for internationals im sure.
i know the family that owns the school, and it is well respected and quite a good research and study institution.

u meant carnegie mellon didn't you? everybody knows its good, thanks for the info!

just letting you know,

You mean the family that "founded" the school, don't you?

To the OP,
Your GPA at 3.2 is not very competitive ... unless your school practices severe grade deflation and your 3.2 puts you at the top 10%. Likewise, your SAT score at 1190 (CR+Math) is below the 25% at all of the schools on your list:

Rochester(1230-1420); CMU(1290-1490); Northwester(1360-1520); JHU(1290-1500)

yes i mean i am family friends with the largest bennaficors and founders of the schools family.

oh brilliant ... you must be a shoo-in ain't so? get a reco letter from them! :D

[Nothing personal!]

yeah i will--i feel sorry for people that dont have reco letters off powerful people..

rochester is a small but good research skl. im applying for it
