I'm hoping that my international background, fantastic references, and the potential for a very good essay will make up for my less-than-stellar stats. what do you think? I would love to go to NYU. thank you!

are you hoping for stern or CAS. what major?
if CAS then,
i had a similar situation, but i was in singapore 9th through 10th and did my junior and senior year in california. I am gonna be Freshman at CAS in the fall.

i think international experience really helps bu make sure you drive the message home in the essays. you hae to show how diversity is a huge thing about where your from and how you can ive with different kinds of people.

as per the stats go, i had a bit higher gpa but only 308 so your good there. you might want to take sat II subject tests and also maybe the sat once more and try to improve those scores as they are not the strongest out there. 30+ act or about 2100(2020 is more than enough though) should be very good.

i think with your ECs and everything, even without your sat II scores nyu might only be a slight reach. but if your scores improve just a bit, then look for a match with high chances of admission.
