Hey guys, I'm an incoming senior and-----

Ethnicity:
-Asian;Filipino
Gender:
-Male
Location:
-Philippines, yes I don't live in the US.... unfortunately I hear it would be tougher
to get in.
GPA:
-3.7.....I know its kinda low...but i hear that the curriculum in my school is tougher
than most US schools.
School:
-Ateneo de Manila University, one of the best if not the best high schools in the
country(It is one of only two universities in the Philippines to receive Level IV accreditation--the highest possible level--from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) through the Federation of Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines (FAAP)and the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU).), does not offer AP's, and freshman year is like 8th grade there in the US, simply
put, we dont have 8th grade.
Rank:
-school doesn't rank until junior year, but I'm assuming I'm ATLEAST top 16%/600
since we have this honors program where out of the 15 classes of 40 students, there
are two semi-honor classes(im in one of them) and 1 honors class, and IMHO, i am
smarter than my other classmates.
SAT I:
-M-720,CR-680,W-680
SAT II:
-do I have to take, considering im an international student?

we build houses for the needy/poor brothers/sisters of of the community.
Dungaw Exposure Program(freshman year, like 8th grade in the US):
we are given the chance to interact with our less fortunate brothers and sisters in the
community and realize the values of simplicity, and to not take our blessings for
granted.
there are a lot...so ill just copy and paste something from the wikipedia page of my
school:
--The High School also offers religious formation programs, such as the Christian Service and Involvement Program (CSIP), which comprises the Dungaw-Exposure Trip for freshmen, Dam

your gpa is slackin

BUMPPP, anyone pls?

Are you asking for Financial Aid?

Your choice of schools are bad. Most of your chosen schools doesn’t provide financial aid or specifically need based ones. You should reshuffle your list and include some safeties. Your top choice (Brown) won’t make you happy with financial aid. What type of schools are you interested in and in which location?

Feel free to ask any question that you have.

And please don’t post the same thread a hundred times.

i already have safties, four in my country, and two in the US… however, im dying to go to brown, and why wouldn’t it make me happy?

sorry for that(posting this a hundred times, its really out of my control, my computer is bugged…)

Brown wouldn’t make you happy at all…That’s because they have no need based financial aid…and I think you require substantial aid to support your education. Always remember that you’re an international and unless you’re TOO good, you’ll always regret if you make the wrong decision.

Which are your safeties? I bet NYU and UCSD aren’t because they DON’T provide any financial aid to internationals.

According to your list you can get need based financial aid only from Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Columbia and Dartmouth.

You should never stick with one college (in your case…Brown) as this will make you very unhappy if you’re rejected.

Your choice of safeties are bad. I can suggest some safeties provided you give me information on what kind of school you want to attend and your choice of location.

what does “no need based financial aid” mean?

My safeties are soooo safe they arent worthy to be mentioned…but my safeties in my country are the top schools.

So for the colleges that I mentioned, which of them should I “prioritize”(like applying ED to them)…please dont mention Harvard or Yale, cuz i dont really think i have a chance…I have a friend in my school, hes in college now(graduated two years ago) and he got in HARVARD…he was the valedictorian unfortunately… the salutatorian didnt even get in…

dartmouth. Need-blind, so your only bet if you get in ED.

^whut? what does need-blind mean?

did you say if i apply ED at dartmouth i have a chance?

I am sorry. You have no chance at all. UC school won’t take international students unless they’re stellar. Your credentials are not good enough for either Ivy or Stanford esp. if you seek financial aid

SAT II:
-do I have to take, considering im an international student?

^ Yep.

Not much of a chance if you’re asking for aid. The only colleges that are need-blind (meaning your chances of admission are not lowered if you ask for aid) for internationals are Harvard, Yale, Princeton, MIT, Dartmouth, Amherst, Williams and Middlebury, and I highly doubt that you’d be admitted to these schools.

Well, lets say I “lied” about me as an incoming senior, what if im only a freshman and i can still go to the US to study high school, would that increase my chances at any rate?(considering the curriculum in my school is tougher tan most schools there)

or do i really have to be a citizen/immigrant?

just tell me cuz ive got relatives there who can adopt me :D

@ Ivy Dreamer: I think your perspective on an undergraduate education in the U.S. is quite wrong.

“Need-based financial aid” is awarded on the basis of the financial need of the student.

You have to take SAT II if you wantto enter the Ivy League. Take 3 subject tests in your area of interest.

As you need financial aid, do not apply to UCB, UCLA, UCSD, Rice, NYU as they don’t award financial aid.

And you speak rubbish. Why do you have to “act” as a high school freshman to get immigration? There are many people going to Ivies each year who are international.

Choose some better colleges.

or do i really have to be a citizen/immigrant?

^ You need to be an American citizen, national or PR to be eligible for federal student aid. It doesn’t matter whether or not you study in an American high school. Is it possible for you to secure a scholarship from your government or local firms in your country before applying for admission? This would certainly improve your chances for schools that are not need-blind for internationals.

@ omega007

no,thats not what i mean, i dont want my younger bro to suffer like me, ill tell him to let my aunt adopt him cuz hes got dreams too, as for me, ill just do my best and hope for the best.

@kthanksbye

whats a national and a PR?

im not sure, the government here(no offense to them) is corrupt, and i dont have “connections”
