Overall I'm pretty sure my essays were great in both content and language. Thanks to some really great ppl who helped me out =]

Schools ("FA" indicates that I'm applying for aid to the institution, so please consider that a deterrent in my admission process...):

Harvard (FA.. and...ignore me please.... just wanted to try my luck =] )
Princeton (same as above~)
Yale (i kno...everybody's doin it!!! urrrgggg...well since it's need-blind...)
Columbia (too competitive for me to ask for any...)
Brown (FA)
U.Va (cheaper anyway)
BC (doesn't have FA for int'l students)
Wellesley (FA)
Vassar (FA)
Smith (FA)
Colgate (FA)

So now... say wutever you want...chance me... Even if it would make me feel bad I'd want the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth... =]

A big big thx to everyone who can do this for me!!! THX!!

Oh sry i forgot...nevermind BC... they admitted me in the EA round... i list these schools so often that i forget to cross it... :P

Anyone?? r u all up ??

First Prize of Nantional English Proficiecy Contest for Secondary Students; ... and 670 on CR and W?
otherwise I think you have great ECs. I can not predict anything for the first 5 universities, but you have great chances to Wellesley, Vassar, Smith and Colgate... (and this is somehow frustrating for me, as I am also applying to the first three )...
anyway.. good luck!

are you on CUUS?
ppl there know more abt Chinese intl' chances

i think one of the former cc members is really similar to you, search for poster happyjanezhang and see if you get anything =)

zhu ni hao yun lol

which college is BC? is is Bates?

u have a gr8 chance Alexis, thumbs up from me.

To plusqueparfaite-
In a non English speaking country like China- The general English ability of people isn't that good and thus you win prizes you wouldn't if you were competing with American students.
I got 700 R and 720 W and i used to win all the Essay competitions and get the highest grade in English at my school- but I know i don't stand anywhere in comparison to many people here.
Plus a 670 is like 90th Percentile which means her score is better then 90% Americans who speak only English usually.

Personally i think your scores are pretty good Alexis- its just that the colleges you are applying to are too reach for everybody.
Hope you get in!-
ps-is BC Boston college?

I would also question the "First Prize of National English Proficiency Contest for Secondary Students" and your 670 on CR and W?

I also live in China, but i'm a US citizen.
and some of my friends got 120 on the TOEFL composite. they are Korean, but they took the test in China. Maybe 119 is for the Chinese only.

And lol, I think i saw the CCTV thing. Was it on CCTV 9? I may be wrong but, I wasn't impressed. I'm sure you're good though.
The ivies are reaches for everyone. You have a good shot all everywhere though.

by the way, do international students get the same FA as citizens? b/c some friends arent going to US colleges b/c even most colleges, even need blind, are towards US citizens and residents, not internationals. I may be wrong. If you can clarify, that'd be great.

Good luck and congrats on boston college.

kyobo, fin aid for internationals works differently. Most colleges don't give any fin aid to internationals at all, only a few elite colleges (Harvard & Co) are need-blind to internationals and then there are some other (mostly high ranked) colleges that provide a very limited number of international students with financial aid - usually less than 20 fin aid packages that several hundred international students apply for... which is why it is pretty much impossible to chance international fin aid applicants. It's easy to tell if someone does not have a chance at all, but once you are within range chances are a crapshot (it's like predicting if someone will be admitted to Harvard).

Alexis, I applied as an international fin aid applicant to Smith and Wellesley last year and was rejected from both. I had a 34 on the ACT, was valedictorian, almost won our national math olympiade (ended up being an honorable mention only) and took several math classes at a university, including one graduate course. I finished all the undergraduate courses in the top 10% but I was "only" 7th out of 34 in the graduate couse. EC-wise I was mainly an athlete (judo; state champion) and did some peer-tutoring. I am German if that matters.
Point is: there is no way to predict your chances and applying for financial aid will hurt you a lot. (If you can afford BC without fin aid, why are you applying for it at the other colleges?)

phew i'm glad some ppl replied =]

thx u guys!!

first, yea i'm on CUUS, but i seriously don't feel like posting my stats there, cuz u kno...Chinese ppl are pretty private about their stuff... if i post mine, i'll hear some ppl saying that I'm bragging or something, when there is seriously nothin i can really brag about.

To plusqueparfaite,
About that CR and WR score... I forgot to fill out 9 questions....and i don't have a very great vocab... i got like 5 sentence completion questions wrong... Nevermind that tho, I would get a 750 if i fill the answer sheet correctly... and also, i'm just not good at tests...i never did really well in tests at school either, so there's my disadvantage.

To shreya.iitk & kyobo,
thx, but really, i don't think that's true... no it's CCTV 10 ... the program is getting worse cus they're changing it to look more like "Super Girls" ,...u kno, that show... which is stupid cuz it's not an entertainment program... ppl there were really competent trust me. Like I said, i'm just not good at tests...seriously... and about iBT, i think ur right... might be the highest for chinese only... but i'm perfectly fine with 116 cuz, well, again, i'm not good at tests! lol... but, really... There's absolutely no point for me to get a 119 or 120...I don't care for a perfect score, as long as I have something that will work for me =]

About FA, I don't think i made myself clear...
for international students, only six schools in the US are need-blind, and they are HYP, MIT, Williams and Middlebury. asking for FA decreases one's chance a lot. And no, actually, I can't afford to go to BC really (did someone ask? this is Boston College) I only applied there as a safety, so that in case I didn't get into any school with FA, I still have somewhere to go. Of course, I didn't lie to them that I was able to afford it, becuz I never sent any Certification of Finances or FA for Int'l Student forms there - only my school stuff and app.

If you can't afford to go to BC, how will you have "somewhere to go" if you don't get into any of the other schools?

didn't i write that i asked for FA?

sry i didn't read ur reply correctly... i can borrow money, or wutever, can't i? by saying "can't afford to go" i meant that my parents can't afford it with their own earning, at the moment. But we can borrow money from other ppl right? And my parents could get their business back on track right? everything's possible.

bump....
someone please?

Ok i am sorry to say this but you are a typical Asian. So am I. I mean you have the perfect math score and low CR and W scores (comparatively) and the problem is that in spite of having good grades and ECs you will be similar to other applicants from your region. Anyway my guesses

Harvard very high reach
Princeton very high reach
Yale very high reach
Columbia high reach
Brown high reach
U.Va safe match
Wellesley safe match
Vassar (FA) match
Smith (FA) safety
Colgate (FA) match

yea yea i kno about the typical asian thing,... urrggg... i could've gotten a better CR score tho, i just messed up on the answer sheet... anyway... but like... won't they even look at the literature score? does SATII really make any difference? cuz i was really happy with my lit score...
