I want to EA UChicago, do I have a good chance?
Is my SAT 1 score too low? Should I retake to get a higher score, say 2250?

Because Chicago doesn’t consider your writing SAT score, you might wanna retake it to bring up your CR score. Otherwise, everything looks stellar. Work hard on your essays.

OxalisWombo,

I know my CR is a bit low, and am thinking seriously of taking another shot in October.
Do you think EA will give a better chance than RD for UChicago?

Traditionally, EA has had a higher acceptance rate than RD. This past year, the EA acceptance rate was about 22% while the RD acceptance rate was about 9%. These things vary quite a bit year-to-year though, so you never know.

The reality is though, that you’ll likely be doing yourself a favor by applying EA as long as you have the stats for it. I would second the recommendation to raise your CR score. At present, your M+CR score is very slightly below average for UChicago students (average is 1470). As an international applicant, it’s better to be significantly above this mark. Your present scores will likely not single-handedly destroy your chances, but it would definitely help to improve your scores.

I third the recommendation to raise Critical Reading score.

Assuming you improve your Critical a bit, your entire ‘chance’ now depends on your essays and mostly on the UChicago essay (aka Uncommon App Essay). Write a brilliant one and I don’t see why you shouldn’t be accepted :).

Best of luck.

You have international olympiad experience. I would go for MIT.
