Chance an international

Hey,

I am an international student applying to American colleges this year. Could you offer me recommendations on colleges to apply to (especially universities) and my chances in the following: Swarthmore, Vassar, Wesleyan, Grinnell, Colby, Bates, URichmond, F&M, Trin Coll, Williams, Princeton and Gettysburg.

These are my stats:

SAT: 730 Reading, 740 Math, 730 Writing (10 E)
SAT II: 700 Lit, 800 MII, 720 Chemistry

Grades: A, A, A, A, B in final A Level exams. Speaking of my entire transcript, converted to Americans standards it is roughly a 3.7 GPA (+/- 0.1).

ECs: School newspaper editor-in-chief, MUN, debate (intl awards won), writing (intl awards won), computer club president and a host of other activities.

Essays: They will be nice.

Recommendations: Counselor's reco will be OK, one teacher reco will be fantastic and the other will be good.

Financial aid: Yes.

I am a dude so women's colleges are off the table :( lol

URichmond: Match
Williams: High Match
Princeton: Reach

Apply early decision to Williams and i think u might have a good shot…

i knw someone with similar stats as urs who applied ED last year and got in…

Haha, I don’t think someone’s else success would be a good predictor for my admission decision whether we have similar stats or not (especially since applying ED won’t make that big of a difference - Williams does not consider “interest” in its admissions process). Thanks for that, though :)

Also, thanks jae.

Williams may not consider “interest” in its admission process but applying early does have its advantages even if you are an international applicant…
More so since u r international and need aid (Williams in need aware) applying early does put u in a more favorable position … last year Williams got around 50 international applicants ED and accepted 11… the total number of “pure” internationals (no dual citizens) was 36 or close…so approx 1/3 were accepted from the ED group…

let me put it this way, since ur stats match the other person who was accepted they shouldn’t be any problem (i guess)…it all depends on ur essays and how you “sell” yourself!

good luck!

Williams is need-aware for intls but it will not affect admission decisions to a very large extent, as stated on their website. Thanks, though.

But I think 36 is the number of students who chose to enroll? 96 non-US citizens were accepted. So, only about 11.5% of international admits were accepted ED. So yeah, I don’t really see your point unless 36 is the number of internationals who were offered aid too (although this is unlikely).

My point is, there are only so many ways a person can be “chanced”
either one can be compared to the current students attending that particular university/college
or
people could look at ones data and provide a guess… the guess can be an informed guess, but it will be a guess nonetheless…

have a nice day!

You’re right, sorry for being a pedant! But my point was that at Williams, ED/RD shouldn’t make too big of a difference really… it will all boil down to luck. Thanks, again :)
