Chance an OOS New York Gal!

Ok, I'm a rising senior from Long Island, New York. W&M is my dream, I love history and I fell in love with it four years ago while visiting Colonial Williamsburg. I am female and one quarter Puerto Rican, I have documents to prove ancestry if necessary, because I'm blonde and Irish looking, lol. I'm middle class, nothing special. No 'moving story' or super hook, just a love of history. :/ So it begins...

From what I've read, I feel like I am the W&M "type," if there is one.

I'm #7 in a class of about 350.

That's it, thanks so much for reading and please tell me what my chances for out-of-state Early Decision admittance at W&M are! Thanks :)

Wow. I’d say you’re a future W&M student!

Are you considering ED? ED is a smaller pool and therefore applicants have an easier time standing out from the crowd and if W&M is your dream school, it might be something you want to consider. Plus, it never hurts a school to admit students who already love the place.

You certainly seem to have many strong qualities. Anyone applying to a selective school should know that great students don’t get admitted because there are simply more qualified applicants than spaces but it never hurts to throw your hat in the ring and give it “the old college try” right?

Yes I am definitely considering ED, it’s just that if I don’t get enough aid especially because I’m out of state, I won’t be able to pay the very very high price of out of state tuition there. And since ED is binding, my parents wouldn’t be able to pay.

You can definitely do some on-line FAFSA worksheets to get a sense of your potential EFC (your estimated family contribution) and your demonstrated need. You can subtract your EFC from W&M’s total cost (about $44,000 for out-of-state) and that’s your potential need. W&M meets about 80% of an out-of-state student’s need. This will give you an estimate of what aid you might get. You can also contact our Financial Aid Office for more information.

If in the end, your family wants the ability to compare financial aid and scholarship packages, you should probably apply regular decision.
