Hi, I'm a junior at a very good private school in New York. I'd like to know my chances for the University of Virginia. I understand that UVA is very tough on out of staters.
**
Junior year grades (semester 1):**
English: A-
History: A-
AP Bio: A
French: B+
AB Pre-calc: B+
I have a substantial upward trend to these junior year grades. Note that my school provides neither GPA nor class rank.

Scores:
ACT:31 (may take again)
SAT: 2070, 1390 (CR + M) I might take this again also.

Extracarriculars:
Varsity Football
Varsity Baseball
Brown Bag Program (a program at my church to feed homeless people, I do it a lot on vacations)
Altar boy at my church since about 4th grade

I would recommend get your SATs a bit higher and, to be truthful, your grades are gonna hurt you. Your stats are good enough for an in-stater, but for out-of-state, you are gonna have a bit of trouble.

Thanks for being honest guys. I’m sure everyone says this, but I had a bad day when I took those SATs, I’m definitely capable of doing better. As for my grades, one should first note that my school doesn’t report rank or GPA and they’re from a school that is widely known as being extremely rigorous. Thanks very much though.

I think you might have a chance. I’m also looking at UVA, and my SAT score is basically yours at the moment (2060). My GPA is a little higher, a 3.9, and I have legacy and alumni connections, but I’m also an out of stater. Best of luck!
