Chance an out-of-stater for Berkeley?

I'm a white male from Arizona with an income of <60k
Chances for Occidental, the Claremonts, and UCLA would be appreciated too (Legacy at UCLA)

Here are my stats:

-Wrote a very personal essay about my father's alcoholism, and how he took his own life when I was eight years old.

Great test scores, low GPA.

what’s your intended major?

Yeah I know, I’m beating myself up over those numbers (GPA).
Intended major is pyschology, philosophy, neuroscience, or a double major combining some two of the three.

How will you pay or Berkeley? It is about $50K/yr for OOS students with no aid except Pell Grants if you qualify and Federal loans. So at maximum an OOS student could would have $15K in “aid” towards the $50K if you include lots of work study.

And unfortunately, UCs can not, by law, count legacy.

Wow, Buzz Killington over here ^^
Where on earth are you getting your information? Berkeley is $20,600/year for OOS plus about $15k/year for room, board, books, and supplies. Supposing I can get about $10k/year in grants, it will not be a problem for my family to afford $25k with help from extended family, student loans, etc.

I honestly don’t understand your goal in pointing out that Berkeley is expensive and that I’m poor.

take more honors classes and do well on your ECs to the point that you will excel in it. Your test scores are great (you’d fall in the upper 30% for Cal’s) but your GPA doesn’t look good. however, since you’ll be applying for L&S, I’d say your chances are good. But take note on my above note. Good luck. :)

The UC Berkeley website lists out-of-state fees for this semester as $17,670.25. That would make the yearly total $35,340, not $20,000. Not sure who gave you your original information.
