Hey guys!

So I'm really conflicted as to what my chances are at schools considering that I have an insane upward trend but a relatively low average. I'd really appreciate the input!

I'm looking at:
-Boston College's Caroll School of Management
-UC Berk
-Notre Dame (EA)
-Cornell
-Colgate
-Brandeis
-Georgetown

I'm also applying to Stanford and UPenn but I'm not expecting anything.

Thank you!

Oh I'm also an Asian male.

You listed a 33 as a decent ACT score?

I’m not saying it’s exceptional or good, it’s okay and I assumed it was fine since it was on the upper end of the middle ACT range of each school.

I’m not sure if you’re implying that I’m ungrateful for my score of if you’re saying it’s horrible but really I just wanted someones opinion on the colleges, cut the bs.

My situation is so much like yours, except I’m a year behind you, but I’ve woken up academically and am prepping for a rigorous course load next year and am expecting an A+ gpa next year. My frosh gpa was 86, and sophomore gpa was 89. A 33 on the ACT is great. It won’t get you in anywhere per se, but it’s very impressive and exemplifies the fact that you’re on the right track. Your SAT IIs follow suit. Your ECs aren’t record breaking, but they’re still exceptional. And I’m planning on applying to a similar group of schools, including Cornell, BC, and Notre Dame. The fact that you’re asian may hurt a little, but I don’t think it’ll be deal breaking. With all this said, here it goes:

-Boston College-High Match
-UC Berk-Low Reach
-Notre Dame (EA)-Low Reach
-Cornell-Low Reach
-Colgate-High Match/ Low Reach
-Brandeis-Match
-Georgetown-Low Reach

Don’t be discouraged by all these “low reaches”. In my opinion, low reaches are still very achievable, as they are identified purely based on statistics, and when an applicant with a subpar gpa gets admitted to one of these elite schools (which they do), there are always other factors. Perhaps it could be your strong ECs and ACT score. I really hope this works out for you, though. I am willing to bet that you’ll get into at least two of these “low reaches”.

YOU have superb stats but in order to clinch an Ivy (Cornell) you may need to apply ED. Also apply EA for GT and BC. Interview in person if possible.

@vipstephen: Thank you so much for the input! I’ll let you know how the process goes for me

@nervedoctor: I’m not sure I want to miss out on the opportunity to apply EA to Notre Dame since the other two are restrictive.

Do you think it’d be a good idea to explain freshman year or wait until it’s brought up in an interview?
