I have letters of rec that clearly say I am one of the top students the teachers have ever had.
I have read them and I think they are impressive!

My essays have been revised so many times by so many different people and I think they will stand out

ECs are beyond impressive

you’d better post chance thread at “what are my chances?” forum. because now EA results hasn’t come out yet and everyone is freaking out,so not many people can chance you. besides, your EC needs more details.

You’re not the strongest candidate statistically speaking and your EC’s don’t really sound “beyond impressive.” But who knows, maybe with your background and essays you may have a shot.

Your scores and rank are weak for UChicago but I think being a URM may balance that out. EC’s look fine, but this might be cause for concern:

Make sure your essays are what you want to say and not what your English teacher/counselor/etc. wants you to say…otherwise it can sound really artificial.

What doesn’t make sense?.. all heinochus and J’adoube were saying is that you should make sure that your essays give an accurate representation of who you are, which can be difficult when an excessive amount of other people are revising your essays for you.

Not just because an excessively-revised essay may sound fake and keep you from getting in, but also because an excessively-revised essay might be fake and earn admission for a person that isn’t you, and you might be unhappy at UChicago.

For example: say that someone revised your essay to talk about how much you love all the academic subjects when in reality you just like math and science. You might get into UChicago with that essay, but once you’re there you might find that you’re miserable with all the core curriculum humanities requirements.

EDIT: Posted right after you did. All we’re saying is that you want to be careful to preserve your “voice” (schmaltzy as that sounds.) If that’s what you’ve done, great. Good luck with your app!
