Almost no chance for Georgetown, Cornell, Stern, and Northwestern. You might have a chance of getting into Emory, UVA, and Boston College, but I wouldn’t be too optimistic about those either. I feel that UT Austin is the only college you listed that you have a reasonable chance of getting into.

@gearsstudio
Huh, I thought being above the 75th SAT percentile range for BC, Emory and uVa would’ve given me at least a reasonable shot.
I guess its my freaking grades lol.
hmmm… I see. I think I’ll take out Gtown, Cornell, and Stern from my college list - not even worth applying.

I should probably look for more matches lol.

Thanks!

Also bump! :wink:

why would you take off your reach schools after just one response on a forum by someone who’s a senior as well? be confident about your application

dude, no one other than admissions knows if you’re qualified. apply – the worst thing that can happen is a no.

btw how is your UW 3.7 and W 4.7?

@netflicks
Not too sure. It’s just how my school weighs weighted gpa I guess. Each school does it a bit differently. It really didn’t seem that important so I never really thought about it lol.

haha ok…does your school have naviance? how do you compare to previous admits?

Don’t listen to gearstudio. The schools he mentioned are very tough to get into, but I would still apply. Your scores and grades definitely put you in the range. Admissions to top schools is a crapshoot and you never know what can happen. It’s always better to have more options to choose from when you are deciding on a school so I would keep the list - looks like a very reasonable list. It is weird however that you are applying to business schools at some universities and the CAS programs at other universities.

Here’s the hard truth. Your grades a below average for Northwestern even for an ED. You do have great leadership and Ecs. Your SAT is kind of average but 13 AP’s is impressive!

Northwestern ( Early Decision ) - Reach
Emory - High Match/ Low Reach
Boston College CSOM (business) - Match
Cornell ILR - Low Reach
NYU Stern - High match

Chance back!:

Apply to Northwestern ED. They have a 37% ED rate, and you are a qualified candidate. I’d say a 40% chance for you

My school doesn’t use naviance so I have no idea how others compare.

Usually top students at my school rarely apply to Northwestern (kinda the result of being in the South) and I’m almost positive no one is applying ( or even has applied to for the past couple of years ) to Northwestern University ED so it can be a bit difficult to compare. Most of the top students at my school apply (and often get accepted to) to HYPSM, JHU, Rice, Duke, or Vanderbilt.

Can someone tell me what they think of my uVa and G-town chances?

@RamenUniversity
Personally i think all of these schools (including UVA and GTown) are reaches for you. You certainly have a decent chance of getting into one of them, but i would focus on adding more target schools to your list. Only saying that because your school rank is kind of low, so you already have 83 students from your school alone objectively more qualified than you GPA wise and probably competing for the same schools.

@PaulDi

I acknowledge the fact that most of the schools I’m applying to are reaches because of my mediocre GPA. I thought I would mostly apply to reaches OOS because I have UT-Austin as a very solid match I would be happy to attend over most schools ( except the reach schools that I’m applying to ). It seemed kind of pointless to apply to schools that were equal or inferior quality to UT Austin.

I was told by my counselor that she would be absolutely shocked if I didn’t at least get accepted to UT ( McComb’s might be a bit different ) with my SAT score, so I thought I might’ve had that lol…

@RamenUniversity Lol that is my exact mentality. I am also in UT and am applying to mostly reaches because I don’t want to pay 40k more for a lower quality school . .

@RamenUniversity If you are absolutely sure you would be happy at UT-Austin that’s great (it’s a great school!). I guess the same applies to anyone when applying to these competitive schools-don’t expect anything! (not even UT-Austin so make sure you have a fallback-fallback). Whatever happens, you will go to a great school and be happy there i absolutely guarantee.

and @gearsstudio is trying to scare you. Your GPA really isn’t low…? (i got into Cornell with a slightly higher GPA but i had great ECs). Your SAT scores are very high too. GearStudio seems to always respond very harshly to these “chance me” threads although he isn’t into a school yet himself. Funny, huh? It certainly doesn’t hurt to apply, but these schools have ~10-15% acceptance rate so it’s a crap-shoot for anyone who applies. It’s kind of pointless to chance students for these schools unless they have absolutely no shot.

Your SATs should balance out your GPA a little bit. Given that you’re an asian male I think your essays will have to be spectacular to get in to Northwestern (ED), also your ECs seem typical

bumpo

UT Austin–match
Cornell–high reach
Northwestern–reach
I can’t comment on the other schools since I don’t know a lot about them. But I think you still have a shot at the cornell/northwestern if you say your essays were really nice.

I think you have a good shot at NU!! Your GPA is not bad like you think it is, it seems like you have a nice character, and you have good EC’s and test scores. You probably have around a 50-60% shot, which is pretty good. I wish you the best of luck! Will you chance me back?
